Why India does not have a vibrant strategic culture

The answer to that question is simple. The Hindu believes he has an opportunity to rule Hindustan in millenniums for the first time. As such he is paranoid, confused, over enthusiastic - in short he does not know what to do with himself.

And thats why he gave leadership of nation to A sikh . So paranoid that they even made a sikh as the Chief of army staff and a muslim President. Ahh Paranoid indoos.

thankfully, unlike some other religions, 'Hindu' is not a political or strategic ideology or even a religious identity. we have no fanatic dreams of world conquest, we do not have the childish itch for global dominion, we have no reason to impose our version of things. We have not attacked a single country in the last 10000 years. unlike some other people, we do not take pride in looting and killing.

God is Great.

maybe the non violent nature of hindus (majority of people ) is the reason why we dont have a strategic long term thinking

Thankfully. If a violent nature and irresistible thirst for conquest are the pre-requisites for 'strategic' thinking, i would rather be 'unstrategic'.

I think u are getting it completely wrong, 'Strategic' means of, relating to, or characteristic of strategy, which in turn means A plan of action resulting from strategy or intended to accomplish a specific goal. That doesn't necessarily means going for conquest or raging war, etc. Strategic culture demands keeping national interests upfront & making long term goals & shaping policy accordingly, that means India should have consistent policies & should not deviate from it (of course with changes in time we have to change a little). Take an eg. of how not having a strategic culture cost India a lot, like we were taken by surprise when USSR disintegrated, our policy makers had never taken this scenario in there working & thus when the time came we were at total loss.

How can India have a strategic culture when it always lacked a strong national vision. And how can a country like india have a national vision where strret level politicians get elected to parliament to do there mohalla level politics in the parliament.Where its armed forces were always kept out of the strategic vision or relegated to backstage by politicians.

So what india end up is to generally reacting to the actions of other countries instead of being proactive in its actions.

India's foreign policy is independent and is entirely dependent on domestic problems it is facing.
India's foreign policy only takes care of its own problems and when it comes to world related issues it follows NAM even though it has a robust ally in Russia.

India's foreign policy do not deal with issues of other countries like USA's foreign policy may be this is the reason to outsiders it is visible as non vibrant. Which is not India's problem.
