首先，由于航空业非常发达，再加上家家都有汽车，美国人本就对坐火车旅行无甚兴趣，美国的火车多数承担的是运输任务。
其次，美国面临的最大问题是超级高铁的轨道。如果说只在区域内建设这一工程，比如发达的东北部（纽约等城市群），还较为可行，但要想将这一系统铺设到全美，恐怕其花费是任何人都无法承受的。
美国地域广大，想要建设超级高铁的轨道首先就要买大量的地皮。此外，为了高速行驶，超级高铁需要走直线，但各地地形不同，想要建造直线轨道需要克服的困难实在太多，成本也实在太高。
