All around development of a society is not sequential. It can run parallel on many fronts. We have other priorities then winning few medal in Olympic or any big tournament. What the benefit it would bring to common Bangladeshis if we will few gold except some pride. Actually same goes for India Pakistan too, better concentrating on human development improving their life standards. For very rich countries whose population are living much better then people of subcontinent can spare their time and resources for many tournament to achieve national pride .
Promoting sports and games as a way of life has many benefits and can aid towards a healthier nation that has many benefits.
Belief that sports is a diversion from quest for basics of life is a notion that needs to go away. Look at many African nations and nations from other parts that are not well off but have good tally of medals.
Cost benefit analysis of medals at such events may not be the right method to calculate pride. The swell of nationalism that a medal or an international win can bring is priceless and create unparalleled feeling of happiness and joy. Remember when BD cricket team defeated Indian Team? The reaction in BD public couldn’t have been bought off the shelf or created by any other means.
This whole affair needs a change of thought process in the society that views sports as a waste of time.
