Why doesn't India join Russian PAK-DA project??

the question is do IAF want it or not in the first place, I don't know if Russia will let India join in the project or not, but surely Russia can sell it to India as bombers like Tupolevs are operated by IN & Russia have also sold bombers to China in the past.

Russia will sell anything given that you have the kind of money to afford it. And on topic, it won't be profitable for India to join hands with Russia for developing PAK-DA, as our requirements won't exceed 20-30, while they'll need more than 80 to replace their aging fleet of Bombers.

Buying off the shelf is more profitable.

Also I believe that once we have the know-how for stealth a/c the same knowledge can be applied to a bomber if and when we need it ...

Because they haven't invited India or nor does India has the option to join any projects on its own will.

Its a nice point but i don't think India will join even if she is invited. The reason being IAF don't have a requirement for a dedicated Bomber. They are going for multi role aircraft and nobody in IAF wants to procure single role aircraft. Second point is even if India goes for PakDa, i don't think we are gonna purchase more than 1 squadron and its uneconomical to maintain only 1 squadron of Bomber.

Any strategic bomber for India would be operated by SFC but we have seen the SFC has no interest in such a platform an dis instead going for 40 dedicated fighters for this role.
