Why does Qatar seem to support PTM?

Gwadar will also make us a regional player. We will have a hold on the straits of Hormuz. Why would the GCC ever want some other country to have that power?

I would disagree here. It may affect UAE (mostly Dubai only) but not Qatar, KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman at all. They are not regional trading hubs, most of their international shipments arrive via Dubai. In case of Qatar, they have their own issues with KSA/UAE which keep surfing every few decades like the current GCC rift.

If anything, Qatar would be pleased Gwadar rivaling Dubai port and may possibly trade through it in future.

I think Qatar will always be a much bigger transit hub than Gwadar because Doha is a huge global air transit hub.

Gwadar investment seems really lukewarm by Pakistan gov't and I do not like how slow the pace of buildup is. As long as Pakistan keeps neglecting Gwadar, I don't see it overtaking Qatar anytime soon.

That said, Qatar is direct rival of UAE that needs Jebel Ali port, and since Qatar is blockaded by sea, Qatar inherently wants success of Gwadar, Chabahar, and CPEC to counter UAE, since Qatar cannot use Jebel Ali due to sea blockade.

Pakistan cannot even finish a small Iran pipeline since 1995 and now we're supposed to believe Pakistan is going to build a pipeline spanning entire length of Pakistan from Gwadar to Urumqi?

FWO will build the pipeline. The same FWO that built Karakoram Highway, considered the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Gwadar will not be a regional player until it is at least as big as port of Karachi

I do agree that Pakistan is closer to Persian Gulf than pretty much any other country outside of GCC+Iran

FWO will build the pipeline. The same FWO that built Karakoram Highway, considered the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Iran sanctions is not excuse for not finishing the pipeline

Why would it not? Doha airport is a major transit hub. If Gwadar becomes an international level city, it would threaten Qatar's hegemony.

Well. I believe the difference lies in goals. Gawadar will primarily be a sea-based goods transit hub and ofcourse it will be a direct rival of Jebel Ali. But Qatar uses its port more like port Qasim so no conflict here. As for the hegemony, i don't see any, its a Gas and Oil rich nation just trying to play independently from UAE & KSA.

Though there are some hands, actually pitching Qatar against every other regional power. From KSA/UAE to Turkey/Pakistan and some of it is due to the Indian influence too.

Doha airport, is air transit and its a different industry. Its close competitor's are Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Manama (Bahrian), Istanbul so it won't matter even if we develop our national carrier on those lines and be part of the game which we can't do.

As I said above, I don't think we can be such a major player in air-transit that doesn't look like Gawadar's main goal. And even if we do, then instead of facing oil-rich gov backed airlines we should focus on North like Islamabad and Lahore airports for international transit it will be a good transit-route for east-west especially South-East Asia/Australia to eastern/central Europe bound traffic. If you see on map, flights may take a shorter/direct path with lesser diversion as compared with MiddleEast. This will further diversify, sea-transit for south and air-transit for north.

Agree, our governments are slow and especially the current one did some effort to take Gawadar/CPEC on back-burner but thanks to China things are forced back on track since last meeting on CPEC and changes in overseeing authority.

They say, everyone wants to be at the party but no one wants to be the first!

We have to work hard to get some Central Asian countries on Gawadar route. Even if other countries are reluctant (assuming) then we should split our Karachi port traffic to Gawadar to get it prominent on global shipping map. This will also release some pressure from the current port and Karachi city as well. If we are not prioritizing our crown-jewel why would someone else be so keen?

Pakistan in general has done a shit job of maximizing relations with Qatar.

Al Jazeera can easily be manipulated by senior top-level Pakistan-Qatar officials to get favorable press coverage and improve Pakistan's global image but Pakistan has totally dropped the ball here.

Turkey and Iran have seized Saudi blockade as opportunity to boost relations with Qatar, Pakistan should have done the same.

Qatar rewarded Turkey by helping stabilize Turkish currency and Qatar rewarded Iran by helping Iran get around US sanctions.

Qatar would help Pakistan way more than backstabber Saudis, Qataris are a loyal friend if they are on your side.

Qatar would have given us a bigger loan than Saudis and most likely with better payback terms if we had supported them during blockade.

Your post was spot on, you have been proven correct with the recent Pak vs SA news & public dissagrement
