Why do IN sub officer receive 25% more salary than other IN officers?

In a recent ad in TOI by Indian Navy I came to know that Indian Navy officers of Submarine arm receive Rs 83,500 per month as total salary(Basic+DA+Grade pay+MSP+Special pay+Transport+Housing) on completion of training. But those officers serving on-board surface ships receive Rs 66,500 per month on completion of training.

Why this discrepancy in salary?

Thats because Submarine job is more challenging and somewhat more treacherous. And submarine job is all voluntary, so they need to give some incentive to the sailors, otherwise no one would want to go on a sub.

NOTE:MARCOS and Submarine cadre receives the same salary?

Extra allowances to cover risks and hard living. Many volunteer for these streams, but not all get selected. BTW even the aviators take home more than those serving on surface ships.

In a war scenario maybe, but think of all the hardships that the sailors in the sub have to go through. Cramped spaces and all, they can't even take a shower!

There has to be an incentive for the hazards a soldier faces. Pilots too get a flying allowance as do soldiers in High altitude areas.

Such allowances are applicable to all ranks in the Services not Officers alone.

After seeing this video there is no doubt that they deserve the every single paisa that they.No bathe and sleep only for 4 hours for 45 days straight..respect.

Well throughout navies worldwide the submarine arm consists of the top tier of naval applicants with the highest aptitude scores, the IN is no different. I think the general rule of thumb is the top 10% of the navy are employed in the sub arm. The pay reflects their high aptitude and the fact the life of a submariner is VERY hard. I believe the IN recruits and advertises for SOF (MARCOs) through its site using the submarine link, for similar reasons the MARCOs' pay is higher than others in IN.
