Why didn't Russia sell MiG-31 to Russia friendly Iraq in the Iran Iraq war?

Sure, F-14 was superior to MiG-25, but not so compared to MiG-31 which entered service in the early 1980s.

The Mig-31 was the result of experience gained on the previous foxbat platform. The most advanced feature was improvement to the Zaslon whilst getting rid of the low level clutter issue and coupling it with the R-33. For the first time the USSR had a better interceptor than the West. In exercises the BM has successfully destroyed low level cruise missiles with both the R-40 and R-33's. Obviously the R-60's also work just fine and the IRST was installed as standard after trials on the Fulcrum. So it was a tremendous improvement on the foxbat. Some Russian sources claim a sustained cruise of 600 knts without reheat on 1/2 hr stretches/ with 4 x R-33's recessed under the belly. So basically the worlds first supercruise fighter. Even the Su-35 today has trouble matching some of these stats.
