Why China's nuclear plans in Pakistan draw global criticism

Every one has the rights for clean energy . So does Pakistan Srilanka veitnam etc.
India will support peaceful nuclear programme for our friends in Srilanka and then to veitnam , Taiwan

Taiwan is already decades ahead of you in nuclear technology, what are you smoking?

And we'd nuke India 100,000,000,000,000 times before nuking our own people.

good luck, first stabilize grid in India, 2nd, make sure Vietnam can afford it.

To be fair, nuclear power is actually a large stabilizing influence on grid stability. I really wouldn't want to be the engineer that tries to integrate wind or solar energy into the India grid. Its stability is already wanting in its current state, adding in wind and solar is going to be very difficult to manage.

Of course, maintenance of power facilities is another story entirely. The worst thing that can happen to a poorly maintained wind or solar farm is just no power output, nuclear stations on the other hand...

Yes, Taiwan has been adopting nuclear energy since the 1970's, and have good availability (risen from 70% to 90%) excellent safety records, radioactive emission and profound experience in waste disposal. The reactors chosen are GE (US) and Westinghouse (US), both second generation (i.e. most widely deployed currently around the world) reactor techs.

Taiwan's future energy options remain to be decided as the existing plants will be decommissioned between 2018-2025 (40-year life span).

For future options on nuclear reactors, Taiwan is likely to continue work with GE, Westinghouse and Hitachi. Advanced generation III (III+) reactors are also available from a handful of other countries (five: China, France, Russia, SK, Canada) but US and Japan firms would probably be chosen for a number of non-tech reasons.

Every time we do something for Pakistan, you say you are going to do more for Vietnam and Taiwan, but what have you done really?

I am starting to feel bad for VN and TW now..:fie:

Taiwan is an advanced economy, naturally they are very fine on this aspect.

Only a handful of institutions and countries are on this high table of nuclear energy techs. Westinghouse and Hitachi have been top notch leader in this field, with a few others at parity or closing in quickly. In terms of the upcoming third generation reactors, only 7 countries are still in the game. By now China have a few giants building third gen, and actively pursue forth gen reactor tech, like CGN, CNNC and SNPTC.

See post #7 for more details

Take UK market for an example. UK no longer possess indigenous nuclear tech R&D anymore, while still operating the world's only 1st gen reactors at the moment, according to GDA 2006, UK's future options are Westinghouse AP1000 (US), Areva EPR (France), CANDU ACR-1000 (Canada) and Hitachi ESBWR (Japan). It has been reported that Chinese firms (CGN, CNNC and SNPTC) will invest (using financial tool as a levarage) and take over the design of UK's next gen nuclear power plant.

Due to political reason, Chinese firms might not be able to compete with US/JP firms in markets like Taiwan, but elsewhere China is fully capable especially those financially tights markets e.g. UK, Romania, South Africa and Argentina.

I wholly welcome low interest loans and development aid from India to Taiwan. Likewise free training for our technicians and engineers. Hindi Chini bhai bhai
