Why China Loves American Chain Restaurants So Much

Why exactly is this even that big of a deal? I mean its just food.

Irrelevant. Neither affects the other. The point is that if American fast food is so terrible, then why are they thriving in China? The Chinese government can shut them down with a virtual snap of its fingers, no? But as long as the government allows, they will continue to make money. No one forces the Chinese people to buy them. I work with Chinese engineers and all of them, when he/she is home, like American fast food when they go out. They enjoys fast food in America and in China.

Look at it this way...

Given how Emperor Xi is going, enjoying American fast food maybe among the few freedoms left to the Chinese people.

I was comparing the popularity.

I don't know how the Chinese folks cook their food at home, perhaps they use less oil and salt.
IMHO in some cases Chinese buffet food is just as unhealthy in America as other fast foods.

Some of the items have astronomical amount of salt/sodium. One cup of egg drop soup has 890mg of sodium. One tablespoon of soy sauce has about 880mg of sodium. That is just about a little less than what you get in a Big Mac which is 1007mg.

F22raptor is a damn disguised Vietnamese whose only mission in the forum is to bring in negative bullsh*t about China! Chinese these days can afford to taste different food all over the world! You must be nuts to think Chinese love American junks! Have some brain to imagine how big country we are. We are not living on a snaky land!

This article is probably written too late. Those chain restaurants were more popular 5-10 years ago. They are heading downward after that, with probably Starbucks as an exception. I never had to fight for seat in Starbucks shops in China though.

Per the highlighted -- you are correct there.

These guys talk as if no one have ever been to China. I have when I used to work for Micron Tech and was helping building up the Shanghai facility. I had genuine home made, restaurant, cafes, and 'food truck' type Chinese food. They were all up/down the scale in terms of appearance, taste, and -- am sure -- nutrition.

But the forum Chinese reactions are not about the food. They know full well that Chinese food can be as 'junk' but tasty as a 1/3 pound bacon cheeseburger. Theirs is about the irrational nationalistic rage that something from America is liked by the Chinese. If the forum Americans express their anger at something similar, they would call US all sorts of names and would get away with it.

This is a test and they failed. They cannot even let their fellow countrymen eat in peace. Everything has to be politicized to the extremes.

American food is just garbage

It's not popular in India.
American food chains are some of the most popular ones in India. Mainly KFC, MCDONALDs, Dominoes, Starbucks. Have you seen the crowd at these places? Beats most of the native restaurants and joints.
They maintain their quality in matters of taste, hygiene and authenticity.
Like most other fast food, they are extremely unhealthy, though.

The hard truth is your average Chinese look up to America as if it's the definition of all the good on earth. You wouldn't believe how many Chinese I met who exhibit these characteristics. It's almost as if PDF Chinese are fake.

The US has set up a great system. It has imported some of the best, brightest folks from all over the world. It also guarantees a good life for the elites of the world. It promotes meritocracy. It gives an individual a lot of freedom.
Overall, it is really hard to dislike the US (aside from some violence issues).

Once in a while it should not be problem but going out regularly for fast food would be an issue every where. It is up to individual to maintain a healthy diet to simply blame restaurant is ridiculous.

I ate some US junk food occasionally for the simple reason its easy to carry and can eat without heating unlike most Chinese food, but I know its junk so I only eat it once a month or so.

And my parents, especially my mother hate it and avoid it like plague.

I dont know why the americans here brag shit like this, maybe too much insecurity:lol:

The US though losing its clout is still the leading economic power.
Unhealthy fast food were developed and grown explosively as the US economy boomed to cater to demands created by the hustle and bustle of urban life.
There will no doubt be some who are attracted to the simplicity and convenience of unhealthy fast food in rising and urbanizing China.

It is a sad day that this unhealthy trend promoted by usually greedy capitalist is being touted by the deranged as a worthwhile achievement for a US fast losing its grip on world economic power.
A clutching at straws moment.
