Why China Banned Skyscrapers [greater than 500 meters]

Then, buy a mansion apartment of 1000m², and make a backyard in it.

Skyscrapers raise nations prestige. The more you have it, the more prestige. Nothing raises one's prestige more than a giant phallic symbol, and a status statement towering above all others :)

If your mansion apartment is not on the ground floor, you can't have a garden surely.

Also i did just that, but i didn't by a mansion because i'm not a millionaire - i bought a house and it has a lovely garden.

In my opinion apartments are great for people without kids.

You just summerised the Gulf mentality, who needs education, science and working justice system as long as you have skyscrapers. :D

And you call this logic?
We just not build buildings higher than 500m,but still much more skyscrapers will be build.

I wouldn't want to live in apartment buildings let alone skyscrapers. You have no garden, no outdoor space of your own.
Those skyscrapers are for business use, no one lives in them.
For me, apartment building is much conformtable, I can walk to the subway station with in 10 miniutes, and go to the supermarket like walmart within 15 minutes by walking of 5 minutes by driving, in the weekend, I can walk 10 mins to get to the park near my apartment by walking.but if I live in the suburbs, although I can get my garden and private space, but I have to spend more than 1 hours driving to those places.

You know country like Switzerland, Finland, Sweden and the likes is capable to produce high technology invention and large output of GDP per capita without needing 200 meters talls building in the first place. And they are not Colonial countries in the past.

After 20 Dalian city
Dalian: Light of Photography

I lives in Jinan, my city can't even go into top 20 in China. really sad.
But I believe will soon enter top 20, the CBD is quickly developed, and will be completed within 5 years.
Now we have more than 10 buildings higher than 200m under construction, 3 higher than 300m, and 1 higher than 400m. all those will be built up with in 2 or 3 years.

All countries has its specificity, In China we have 6 cities with a population more than 10 million(population in built-up area). that means more population than whole country you metioned above.and 15 more than 5 million, 29 more than 3 million.

The way to prevent those mega cities expand too much size is to build more tall building. So the community resource like subway, school, hosipital ext can be supplied concentrated.

In american suburbs maybe but certainly not here.

Hmm. This is surprising.

Not many buyers? Empty spaces?

Building TALL makes sense because cities become too large otherwise.

Better to have some buildings offering all manner of services to respective residents then forcing them to travel to distant places all the time.

But yes! People should have the choice of making their own homes. Societies if you will. But these should be widely spaced.

Skyscrapers are the future! They are not trying hard enough!

Skyscrapers are necessary when you need to build cities. Chinese are not a few millions of them but more than a billion. Look at New York City, just under 800 sqkm, it has a GDP of $1.5 trillion.

Skyscrapers are ugly, unsafe and totally unnecessary. A city needs to expand horizontally and not vertically. In this age of automation, workplaces and living spaces can be built from two storeys to max five storeys ( with garden ) in newly developed townships whose citizens can visit the big cities occasionally.

Skyscrapers raise nations prestige. The more you have it, the more prestige.

India and China are new-money countries which basically have adopted the things that USA is more or less discarding. For example, the desire in India and China for more private cars, against the promise made by Uber when it began - that privately owned cars need not exist.

I can't say how much population and habitable land factor into this but I would assume both your countries were doing fine pre-1900 (ie not a "Mark of Gideon" scenario) without being stacked high upon each other.

I claim the otherwise, Skyscrapers wont be that popular in the future anymore, at least not the super tall ones just because the cost efficiency argument alone.

No you d not need super tall structures. Arguably Cost benefits goes down by every meter added to height of building beyond 100 meter. Also you do not need 100 story building for residence or offices .. it become too expansive for people to afford.

Here is new video from B1M.

ok so in summary

poor quality as demonstrated by the SEG Plaza in Shenzhen
low occupancy as demonstrated by by Shanghai Tower
not enough cash as demonstrated by by Golden finance 117
ghost towns as demonstrated by Kangbashi, Ordos City
copy cat cities as demonstrated by CitySky City which not only give bad press but bad taste

clearly all vanity projects to show the real estate is booming
