Nobody ever tried to teach me Bangla. I can understand some words when Bangladeshis speak though. Especially the Sylettis.

What do you benefit by learning Bangla in Pakistan vis a vis Sindhi or Pushto for example???

To some extent we/I also understand Bangla :P thanks to some cultural exchange programmes by SAARC media many many years back when I was in School.

BTW now SAARC has become hostage to a supa pawa

I think Bangalis because of living next to India, understand bit of Hindi and through that, bit of Urdu as well.

On this Eid in the Masjid, I happened to hear two Bangalis talking and I tried to get some sense of the topic but it was too alien for my ears. Speaking of myself, I cannot understand a bit of it.

I would have learned it if i had bengali GF . Bengali people are exposed to Hindi/URDU so they understand it while there is not much interaction of Urdu/Punjabi/Pashto speaker with those speak bangla. My native tongue is photohari but i understand all dialect of Punjabi and Understand pashto as well because spent some time in KPK and had interaction with pashtuns so when two pastun speak to each others then i get almost get 60/70 percent of what they are talking about while when two bengali talk to each ohers then it seem japanese to me :P it will be easy for urdu speaker to learn arabic or fasri than bangla

What sort of question is that?

Why don't you Banglas understand Brahui? o_O

Look Bangla is a regional language - Urdu was sort of like the Lingua Franca during British rule and also before them, mostly in the North.

Today you understand it because you have been exposed to Bollyness.

Bengalis speak/understand Hindu/Urdu because they need to vault across the border and chat with their Hindi-speaking Indian....friends. Also, in the '80s, there was a steady stream of Bengalis travelling to and working in Pakistan.
