Why Bangladesh sees genetically modified golden rice as a threat

Instead of golden, silver or copper rice please invent something delicious rice that can be found in Japan and California. The market is full with hundreds of varieties of rice but none is tasty. It is disgusting to boast about another one. All are worthless except the Polaur Chal.
Yep. Nothing comes close to chinigura in bd. Why not use the Indian variety of basmati. They export it all over the world. We can at least grow for people in our country. Miles better than any fat rice grain ever.

No, Chinigura is just good for Polau and Biriyani. The Mymensingh doctors should research for something that as good as Japanese rice. It is sticky and tasty.

There is also similar California and Australian rice imported to Japan. But, no Japanese will ever buy anything like foreign rice. They will pay three times more for Japanese rice. Only the foreigners seeking a cheap price would go to Halal Food Shops to buy imported rice.

In Faridpur I once bought a few kgs of local (probably Rangpur) Basmati rice. There is no Bas and also no Moti in this rice very bad taste. I think weather and soil are important for a certain variety of rice. A good quality Basmati may not be produced in BD and it is also meant for Polau and Biriyani although many Pakistanis cook rice with this variety.

However, the Mymensingh rice doctors may try for a genetically modified Japanese or Basmati rice for general consumption. But, please ask them to make the rice tasty and bring down the number of varieties to two or three. At least, 25 varieties are avaikable now.

I think so too. Maybe it could be engineered to grow in bd climate. I have had Indian basmati all my life and now trying to eat any bs rice makes me feel like to vomit, only Bengali rice I appreciate is chinigura, I think I’ve also had kalijira, yes I did. It’s great and both these are good for pulao. But I prefer my biriyani with long grain rice like basmati.
The Japanese rice is beautiful in taste and smell too and I think it would grow in bd beautifully without any modifications to its genes, could be a good substitute to the shit average rice found in bd bazaar.

Yes, you are right. I forgot that Japnese Koshihikari variety of rice is already being produced somewhere in Comilla. It is produced by some Japanese organization and is for consumption by the Japanese, Korean and Chinese population in BD. However, many BD expatriates from Japan would prefer to eat this variety. It is expensive and is available in some Gulshan markets I do not know where.
