Why Afghan army collapsed

What is to be an Afghan? Not even the ANA knew. They have no idea for who or what they were fighting for. No spirit d’corp.

That the US continued to rely on them in the face of reality will fill history books.
What if the US knew exactly what they were...they just wanted them to fake it till the US got out...ANA was always a smokescreen.

Like jazzbot said,corruption.

There were some good units in ANA (I think their special forces),but the vast majority probably didn't care much. Yes,some descent people fought well and tried, but when you're the only one fighting you can't win the war.

Like I said in another thread,I had heard in a documentary once that initially the Germans wanted to create a relatively small professional force, effective and easy to maneuvre,well-trained and dedicated. But the Americans wanted a big conscript army and you guess who's opinion was enforced...

And you remember all those videos of Afghans being trained by Americans and exercising out of sync, getting scolded by their American NCOs for smoking weed during patrols, battle or guard duty. It was tragic.

.
They were ordered by higher ups not to fight so nothing they coud do. Doha agreement is being implemented nothing more
Doha agreement called for a US retreat and a Taliban-Afghan dialogue. I don't remember reading about an ANA surrender.

Can you please share a link to this documentary?
If someone who knows this stuff can comment; would a small, well trained, professional force have stood its ground? Just for argument's sake; lets say they didn't have to worry about their next pay check even after the Americans left. How big this small army would have to be? 20k? 50k?

I've no idea what the video was called or when I watched it but I'll try to find it again. You want me to quote you when I do?

Update on Afghanistan-Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan Defence Ministry has just said that it has shot down an Afghan Air Force plane last night as it tried to violate the border with Afghanistan.

The plane is most probably Super Tucano A-29.

A lack of espirit de Corp; poor leadership especially at the top and especially politically (selfish) and that undermined the will.

Sun Tzu would say they lost the “Mandate of Heaven” by not abiding by cultural rules of good behavior and fairness

This makes sense.
Kandahar police said before the city fell they hadn’t been paid in six to nine months, according to the Washington Post, making Taliban offers (again, money!) more tempting.

The question is, where do these Taliban recieve money for their operations.

The Afghan Army budget was 6 times to that of the Talibans, with more than 50% paid by the US, where was all that money going?

Creating muscle memory in this case takes time. People had to go through the motions for much longer and accept it as their fate... Western Liberal Order. Not to be when a popular militia fights for cause only... remember the process of importing and installing a regime is time consuming and costly.
It wishes to incorporate its foes...
It was always going to be a matter of time... A military(call it corrupt) effectuated around a bureaucracy and kept together in a hierarchy sans cause only derives strength from the measly paychecks they receive to feed themselves and their families. Pressure if applied correctly will inevitably cause flanks to melt away, considering it to be the only way out to save their skin.
This in effect creates a paradox for all current western projects including U.S. and Europe of what some fear as a right wing take over. Police, bureaucracy and military may just melt away under suitable conditions...
That being said, India finally finds itself completely isolated in the region... that is the most clear and damning takeaway... onus going forward falls on that country and it's population, a colonial project still going strong running largely on brahmans raising shysters and wannabes from scheduled castes and imitation gandhis running on the backs of someone else's legacy and name.
This fraud of a "state" must be exposed for what it is...

Some regional powers, it seems, have reached a modus vivendi with the Taliban. China has received a Taliban delegation. Uzbekistan, Iran, Russia and Pakistan have welcomed the Taliban’s return to Kabul in what they referred to as a peaceful manner, and willingness to share power with other political actors.

The Biden administration believes that its concerns in Afghanistan have been addressed to the extent that Taliban leaders have pledged not to allow any militant group to use Afghan territory against Washington or any other country in the world.

The answer is corruption.

There is a report in Washington Post that there was no pay for past 6 months to Afghan Police. So while the money was there, it wasnt really reaching intended parties.

Your take, please. Would be better if discuss technical aspect, training, local and ethnic issue. The biggest disaster in military history where the whole army collapsed in the shortest period of time.
According to US govt figures 3 hundred thousand trained soldiers vs 75000 Taliban.
Corruption
And
Lack of afghan nation

Even today afghand dont like to be called afghans they say this is pushto term for pathan( and they are right)

Solution was root out corruption ans rename afghanistan as khorisaan and accept durand boarder so everyone can focus within

These were not done
