90% of leadership positions in Indian media are occupied by Upper Caste groups with not even a single Dalit or Adivasi heading Indian mainstream media according to the report. This was around 88% in 2019, showing negligible improvement.

Media has been perceived by the masses as a sacrosanct institution but how these are governed is a matter of mystery. While a wide range of issues are discussed, covered and aired both in print as well as on news channels, caste disparity within media houses has hardly ever been a topic of serious discussion. The deliberate ignorance of the issues that affect marginalised communities has led them to come up with their own channels.

This study is an attempt to find out the status of representation among SC, ST, OBC & DNT in different media outlets. The research team has explored the challenges faced by newsrooms, looked for existing best practices that different countries have adopted and also provided suggestions to make newsrooms more inclusive.

The general caste groups continue to dominate TV, Print & online media. Around 43 Indian print, TV and digital media outlets showed more than half of news anchors and news writers in media are from the general category.

Every 3 out of 5 articles in Hindi and English newspapers are written by General caste authors while marginalised castes (SC, ST, or OBC) only contribute to around 1 out of 5 articles.

More than half of the anchors from the 8 news channels analysed for the study belong to upper caste groups while no channel had anchors from Dalit or Adivasi community to host the debate.

The digital media platforms considered for the research period showed comparatively higher improvement in representation of SC and STs than print and electronic media. The SC and ST category representation in digital media has gone up by 11% and around 3% from earlier zero.

The media in the country needs to uphold the constitutional principle of equality in not just its coverage but also in its hiring practices.

Since Media India media is a racist (caste system) institution, its fares poorly in International Ranking.

As Usual Upper caste BJP government rejects Indian media ranking, like previous upper caste government Congress.(Basically it doesn't want to acknowledge like the povery or Hunger index, so that it doesn't have to do work for OBC SC ST)

This is what Think Tanks in China Pakistan needs to understand, Upper caste party like BJP and Congress, and their people in power, hates majority population OBC SC ST more than China, Pakistan combined.
