Vietnam is different with Filippines. After three period of colony, Filippino lost all ambition, they just want to be with America tightly and gain some status in the area.
Vietnam had and have a power expectation. Vietnam failed in the westward expansion, they turn to eastward.
Filippinos even in dream never consider anything about nuclear weapons, but Vietnamese hold in the mind.

So I think Vietnam's future will be prosperous than Filippine's, because they have ambition. More and more Asian countries become strong, Asia will be more secure and influential.

Exactly, Vietnam definitely have potential to become powerful country in South East Asia if they play the the game right. Although she still have very long way to go, she better play nice, compromise and have stable relationship with the panda up north.
No one in South East Asia have the luxury to have bad relationship with China as the influence of the panda in the region getter bigger.

Cambodia, nope I do want Vietnam to have any relationship with them. Vietnam put military influence there to assure they not being use by either Thai or China to cause trouble on its western front. Vietnam has no interest on taken over Cambodia.

Lao is in different scenario, their people and government have been very close to Vietnam, in fact many Lao elites are half Viet or have certain Viet ancestry. They like to be closer to Vietnam. Anything happen to them (for example Thai invasion) they will run to Vietnam. Economic difficult they will run to Vietnam...etc. though Vietnam has no desire to control their government.

4 young Chinese siblings die in apparent suicides
