WHO Report:The 10 Most Air-Polluted Cities in the World

By Bryan WalshSept. 27
Environmentalists here in the U.S. are not happy with President Obama, in part because he pulled back on a promise to tighten ground-level ozone and smog standards for air pollution. But American greens should remember: much of the rest of the world has it far, far, far worse.

That’s one takeaway from a new report by the World Health Organization that looked at urban air pollution around the world. The most polluted cities tend to be found in developing countries. No surprise there—poorer countries tend to have dirtier cars, factories and power plants, and rarely have or enforce the kind of environmental regulations that have—over the course of decades—become common in the developed world. But what’s interesting is that the urban areas with the worst air aren’t the sort of Dickensian megacities one usually hears about: Beijing, Chongqing, Bangkok, Mexico City. The losers are smaller cities, many of them in Iran or South Asia, and none of them economic dynamos.

5. Quetta, Pakistan

6. Kermanshah, Iran

7. Peshawar, Pakistan

8. Gaberone, Botswana

9. Yasouj, Iran

The data given by the Chinese government to WHO was from 2010.

Secondly that news piece is dated Sept. 27, 2011 :double facepalm:

So this source says that India is number one when it comes to worst air pollution!!
No they are from same sources.First list is of worst polluted ciiteis and this thread is about overall pollution in a country.

That's surprising.

When/if India becomes a challenge to the established order and stands right next to the existing super power (like China is today) threatening to overtake it, the Western media will start using pollution to stir trouble and badmouth India.

For now, all is silent in the Western front.
I always wonder why thoughts of all the Chinese match so much or Chinese have created a lot of duplicate ID;s here o_O

upss... i put the wrong article.... yup thats one from Sept. 27, 2011.

This list is faulty. Air in Pakistan is not that bad. And why would it be, we dont burn much hydrocarbons because we dont do anything. Our GDP rate shows that. Chinese are turning those cogwheels and churning out stuff so thats why they have a pollution problem like west had before it transferred manufacturing to china.

why Beijing is not there... :o:

there is some problem with the data..
14th place but we never gloat just because we're not top 10 in this list,
We rather be 30th.

Total Bullshit. Pakistan on Top? lolz and Afghanistan? cant stop laughing. Least Industrialized country of world is in top 10.
No china Japan North Korea.
Stupid Article

Because at the end of the day, Beijing simply isn't that polluted. The thing you got remember is that all these Beijing smog report are actually limited to winter time where the low pressure fronts may trap air in the area due to the fact Beijing is surrounded on three sides by mountain. The rest of the year isn't nearly as bad. Beijing is also only high on the PM2.5 department because its pollution are mostly generated by motor vehicles, it doesn't have much on the PM10 department since it is not an industrial city and reforestation effort in the recent years have effectively curbed sand storms.

Beijing is simply put on the spot light because it is the Chinese capital, but its pollution isn't nearly as bad as some of the other cities in the world.

That's why you are called a nation. More or less, a similar perception of the world. Like the inherent American exceptionalist ideology.

Do you thin Indians sound any different? Maybe not to yourself, but to others, yes. You often fall in the same line.
