For all who jumping we should go for su 35 thats not happening in near future period.
2nd f 16 is capable craft and i think paf will go for these birds depending on the what Americans want back in return
3rd f18 just for 8 jets setting up a whole new system it wont be worth time or money unless pakistan is willing to go further and by the old jets frol nato countries

Best bet if uncle sam doesn't want to much in back Military should go for the jets and ask tham more than just 8
And keep trying to pursue chinese options as well thunder is the bird which needs money and bit of time
Developing a new aircraft and making it formidable against other potent jets is a marvelous achievement and it will take its time to go further

Excellent analysis. Some very good points and strategies.

told you, pak will get more F-16s, they're still better than anything the Chinese have on offer.

SU 35 :disagree:

Hi all,

i think everything here is too over blown. lets get one thing straight. it's only 8 f16 in return for cooperation.
like giving a carrot to a bunny. you dont need jets. you need investment!
your current pm has no say in this, the army chief does however who will be going to the US this year and ensure things go accordingly. who brought f18's into this !? i think the best thing here is to say thanks but no thanks. but investments in energy, agriculture, education, industry and utilities are very welcome. if not walk away.

regards

very good assessment . in fact SU-35 is not replacement for F-16 for adding extra power . as PAF already have a infrastructure PAF should pursue for new and MLU F-16 along with replacing F-7/mirage with JF-17.

Zia Ul Haq was right, these are just peanuts. But Zia Ul Haq was stronger than our more recent heads of the state and he was the type that can strike a good bargain.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is preparing to sell eight new F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, senior American officials said

For an American Official, Block 52s couldn't be a "NEW" F16, Does it?.

way too many Su 35 threads, but if you go digging you'll see I said it when most of you guys were in a mad frenzy about the flankers.

LCA is a must for IAF/IN and our local industry, without it there is no make in India, both LCA and Rafales, 100+ each guaranteed.

jeetey raho !

The economy is still in recovery right now. Back before the earthquake, the acquisition plans looked promising but even they were calculated upon expenditure marked for approval upon the availability of future funding. The earthquake, the global economic meltdown, the years of terrorism and civil war, and the incompetent leadership have taken their toll on funding for new shiny toys.

But the fact that PAF is still interested in F-16 acquisitions and has gone through with 13 more from Jordan says something quite clearly; despite almost a decade on since these plans were fully laid out, PAF still sees more F-16s as a good bet, and it'll probably try to get as close as it can to meet the requirement given what funding is available.

That last part is important, keep the economy going on the upward trend, ensure political stability and then competence, you'll have your F-16s and more yet.

Pakistan Airforce needs some 300-350 new fighter jets. JF-17s and F-16s (if supplied in numbers) can reduce this demand to 200 jets. But still after that, we need at least a 4.5th Gen and a 5th Gen jet to fill the number and technological gap. Pakistan Airforce cannot phase out F-7s and Mirages till the induction of more Thunders, Vipers and next Gen fighter jets.

Su-35S is a potent candidate but in my personal opinion. PAF should procure upgraded version of J-10 to maintain to fill the technological gap against IAF. 80-100 J-10s should be inducted in 5-7 years along with a next Gen fighter also in procurement process. F-16s and JF-17s are no doubt state of the art cutting edge technology fighters but in the developing and evolving threat scenario, Pakistan Airforce and Naval Air Arm needs aircraft with modern avionics, suits and greater range. 150-200 jets are requirement of PAF which can be fulfilled by completely new jets. I don't see any probability from Europe or America in this regard but Chinese and Russian Jets can join PAF in this quest. PAF should immediately prepare a decade long procurement plan and start the procurement as soon as possible.
