WASHINGTON: The White House on Monday defended its decision to end Syria ceasefire talks with Russia, accusing Moscow of trying to bomb civilians "into submission."

"Everybody´s patience with Russia has run out," said White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

The United States on Monday suspended negotiations with Russia on efforts to revive a failed ceasefire in Syria and set up a joint military cell to target jihadists.

"This is not a decision that was taken lightly," State Department spokesman John Kirby said, accusing Russia and its Syrian ally of stepping up attacks on civilian areas.

Kirby said the Russian and US militaries will continue to use a communications channel set up to ensure their forces do not get in each others´ way during "counterterrorism operations in Syria."

But the United States is calling home personnel who had been sent to Geneva in order to set-up a "Joint Implementation Center" with Russian officers to plan coordinated strikes.

And US diplomats will suspend discussions with Russia on reviving a September 9 deal reached between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russia´s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Under that protocol, a truce came into effect on September 12 but it collapsed within a week amid bitter recriminations and a surge of fighting in the five-year-old civil war.
Washington has accused Moscow of failing to rein in President Bashar al-Assad´s government forces and abetting his strikes on civilian targets.

Moscow, meanwhile, says the United States failed to separate "moderate" anti-Assad rebels from Al Qaeda-linked jihadists.
"Unfortunately, Russia failed to live up to its own commitments, including its obligations under international humanitarian law," Kirby said, in the statement.

According to the US spokesman, Russia was "either unwilling or unable to ensure Syrian regime adherence to the arrangements to which Moscow agreed.
"Rather, Russia and the Syrian regime have chosen to pursue a military course, inconsistent with the Cessation of Hostilities, as demonstrated by their intensified attacks against civilian areas."

Kirby accused Moscow and Damascus of "targeting of critical infrastructure such as hospitals, and preventing humanitarian aid from reaching civilians in need."
And he repeated Washington´s charge that Russia and the regime were responsible for the deadly September 19 attack on a United Nations aid convoy in northern Syria, outside Aleppo.

Typical American Negotiation tactics

1- Open third party negotiations
2-Bomb/Kill the the opposition during negotiations
3-Blame the opposition and third party negotiators for end of negotiations

. . . .
And what they going to do? Bomb Russia to submission?
They can't do that until they are successful in finding a way to escape the Earth safely and live on another planet for example Mars since bombing USSR will means a thermonuking of the entire race of the West on each and every part of the world including EU, North America, Middle East and elsewhere.

.
Don't know why the US is even involved in Syria? If the Russians want to bleed for the sake of Syria, so be it. If they can help bring peace in the region, so be it. All US cares about in the Middle East is Israel.

In fact, if it wasn't for US ill-fated war in Iraq, the region would be in relative peace. We wouldn't be talking about ISIS, that's for sure.

. .
Patience has ran out but will they poke the bear? As in target them.

No they won't, they poke their noses in states like BD and Pakistan. Though they don't agree to many of the things the Russians are doing but in the end what counts is her non-Muslim status. At the moment crushing or weakening every Muslim state is the priority. They will point their guns at China after they are done with the Muslim states. Yes, Russia is also in this hit list but Russia is at the bottom of it.

.
The US has just put new sanctions on Iran hours after the old one was lifted. So much for a new US-Iran rapprochement.

Well, whomever ends up winning in Syria, either Assad and his forces, *or* the moderate opposition camps[1], we end up with two camps of people[2] that dispise eachother even worse than at the time (a few years ago that no doubt seems like an eternity for a lot of Syrians).
This war started over Syrian-government-revenue sharing with tribes other than Assad's tribe (which i'm right to call greedy and violent (barrel-bombing your own merely-demonstrating citizens is severely dishonorable).
Assad is not like Egypt's leaders, nor Tunesian leaders (both Egypt and Tunesia enjoy good leadership at the moment). Assad and his forces are evil towards all Syrians who are not part of the Assad (set of) tribe(s).

I call upon all world leaders, not to turn Assad into a Saddam Hussain, to not prolong this horrible civil war in Syria..

[1] ( i do trust ISIS will be driven out of Syria, and i feel no need to comment on ISIS/ISIL at the moment)

[2] ('Assad bloodlines, tribe and forces' and 'the moderate-muslims and -moslimas of Syria')

I dare US to attack Russia in Syria. Talking big and beat up small kid is US speciality but when comes to facing the real bear. They will chicken out.

yeah, i understand many will feel the same as you do.

however, doing what you suggest would put the 3 superpowers (China, Russia and NATO) back in a huge armsrace, that could result in 'breadlines' (an inability to feed the common people)..

So i'm gonna have to vote against your idea....

ISIS leader and 4 top commanders poisoned by someone and this news comes out . o_O
