What's new

Which is more advance, JF-17 Block 3 or F-16?

unless we don't have first Block 3 in service we can't compare it with any Air craft .. but as per my guess Block 3 will be if not equal but on par with F-16 block 40 .

Nope, an AESA equipped JFT will be better than Block-52 may be bit lesser than block-V

Thank you for your post. The AESA on JFT is untried/untested so a bit premature to say how it will perform. Not a criticism per se just an objective assessment. Other software as well needs to be integrated to see the overall effect. The problem remains one of the unknown. How do you compare a known entity with an unknown one! This is the issue at heart. This whole discussion is within the realms of a certain amount of fantasy(for lack of a better word) as the tech on JFT remains unknown. It would however in my view remain a litmus test to the progress of the Chinese aviation industry especially in software.
Regards.

The tech of JFT AESA is not untested, China have deployed AESA radars on different type of fighter aircrafts and for JFT its coming after being matured.

Every new technological product needs to be tested - thoroughly. This is true even for incremental updates. Having worked in the West for technological firms that have extremely high requirements for quality, I can tell you there are always bugs to be found. And then there is the fact that each new product, each new evolution, represents a certain set of trade-offs. In the case of KLJ-7A, it is these trade-offs that need to be tested. Given the reality of JF-17 as a lightweight platform, and the power (both raw electrical power, and computing power) available to the radar, and the specific version of software that has been implemented for it, how well does it perform in the real world? What happens when the fighter jet is moving at Mach 1.2? When it is making a 7G turn? Over sea, in mountainous terrain? None of these questions can be answered until we have an actual prototype Block 3 flying. Merely fitting it on a transport aircraft doesn't provide all the data points needed. Then there is the matter of features, not all of which may have been frozen. Would it support Low Probability of Intercept? We indeed have high expectations, but we need to wait until the final specs are officially shared, and insiders/seniors on the forum provide insight from PAF tests in realistic scenarios.

Hi,

It is a minimum of 3-5 years for maturation---that is why---military technology installed in modern aircraft is around 3-5 years behind.

Each product matures on the type of aircraft it is designed for---unless you are using an exact same item on another aircraft---.

Probably the exact same radar as on a J-10C but with a slightly smaller aperture. Testing is unlikely to find any major discrepancy in this case.
