The saying goes, be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. Problem is most people asking for these kinds of security don't think it will affect them personally until it does and then they scream bloody murder.

Mass surveillance is widespread in China. Despite the Orwellian notion it gives, my Chinese friends say they feel very secure no matter what part of China they're in. In Pakistan we have the system but we lack the principles of implementation.

A CCTV survailence system without facial recognition facility is a Reactive technique as you only see the tape when an accident/crime occure. While on the other hand A safe city project that have facial recognition is a proactive technique. It can save us alot of time, lives, and resources by strict monitoring of those who have criminal records and other suspects.

Everything needs a blame game, high def cameras are expensice and even more so with commissions/corruption that go into all Pakistani projects.
