Where does the Egyptian military get its credibility from?

In all the talk about the military coup in Egypt, I've always been wondering something. Why do Egyptians hold the military in such high regard? Through all the media coverage its been like those idiots on the street are like, "Yes! Yes! Bring in our brothers in the military! Our glorious military!"

Egypt's glorious military?

-Egypt's Armed Forces have basically been ruling, (and misruling, if I must add) through Generals/Dictators, Egypt for all of its history and Egypt's fortunes have never been good

-Egypt has never won a war. Sure, they've intervened in Yemen and whatnot and fought little Libya, but Egypt's armed forces have done nothing but shame. A country of ~80 million has been embarrassed, time after time again by our friends in Israel. In Turkey when we think of military pride, people think of our wins in Çannakale or the Independence War. We point to Cyprus to remind people not to f**k with Turkey. In Egypt? You've had your entire airforce destroyed on the ground and Arab country upon Arab country have all attacked a micro-nation multiple times only to get scores of your soldiers killed needlessly and the Egyptian military is such a failure that not only is Israel (thankfully) still a country, they're actually very right-winged nationalist because they beat you so badly

-Egypt's military also is known to kill protesters and was siding with the dictators throughout the revolution


This is not a troll thread. I'll clarify my question. Why is the military held so highly?

I'm not trolling. Let me clarify. It's my opinion about my judgement of the Egyptian army. But the failures of the Army are facts.

Israel has been conquered many times before by the same states that attacked Israel in these wars ^^.

If the US leaves the middle east and stops policing it, states would rise and Israel would not last long. Infact they already cleaned mess for Israel many times in the last 30 years.

You guys are granting the legitimacy, credibility, and admiration to your own armed forces. Don't you ever think for a second that your military is acting on behalf of a foreign entity, because it isn't.

But here's why Turks and Egyptians are different.

It isn't the Turkish militaries job to "protect" Turkey from moderate Islamists. What you call decapitating is just how things should be. I was very angry about the Ergenekon trials and the jailings but civilian-led militaries are the right way to go. It's just our trial was politically motivated, but thats a whole other topic.
@hinduguy, you're right I should have been more respectful. But it's a topic that I'm very aggravated about and Egyptians have done nothing but insult Turkey for what? Saying the coup was a coup? For supporting democracy?
