When a Japanese Carrier escorts an American Carrier

Ma'am,just a simple question, does the Norwegian Navy allow it's women personnel to participate in case of a combat operation or are they just part of the S.A.R. division of the R.N.N.??I am asking this because here in India we don't allow our women personnel to participate in any kind of live combat exercise:-).

Women are allowed in direct combat and are subject to draft conditions if needed. Enlistment isn't mandatory, conscription is only extended to a few thousand men and women per year, but those that enlist and are selected or those that are drafted are expected to serve in any role chosen for them - or that they test into. That includes combat roles.

These are not twins. For one, they don't have the same radar fit. And their bridge structures differ.

Yes, I know that. The term 'twin' was just used on my part for literary purposes.

The 2nd Izumo will be substantially larger than the DDH-183.

We allowed women to serve in all combat roles in the early 2000s ! :smokin:

You beat us by more than a decade ! :(

Before that women were serving in the Pakistan Armed Forces in supporting roles since our creation ! :agree:

Norway is liberal compared to Japan then. Even now, there is limited number of women who serve in the JSDF branches, tho its slowly changing.

Did you just say conscription ? You guys have conscription in Norway ? :o:

We haven't had conscription in Pakistan...since ever....even though there is a constitutional clause that could be invoked by the President ! :undecided:

I suppose having a population of nearly 200 million people has its advantages ! :smokin:

Imagine if they all can be educated and groomed into taking our motherland forward....what a country we could become ! :pakistan:

Imagine the armies.... ;)

Btw, i do admire the professionalism of Jawans in both the Pakistan and Indian Armies.

Yes, but only for around 3000 people per year. The total size of the Norwegian military, including civilian contractors is only 23,000 persons (83,000 during a full mobilization of forces). Conscription is needed to ensure the military at least has people.

Conscription is not enforced though. It's a weak system, you can read about it here:

Country report and updates: Norway | War Resisters' International

Norway is liberal compared to Japan then. Even now, there is limited number of women who serve in the JSDF branches, tho its slowly changing.

And underpopulated. 5 million people, compared to 180 million in Japan. We need more than just men to serve, or else a shortfall occurs.

So when Pakistan wants to invade Norway all we have to do is to send only the people who inhabit my city (10 million) and we would've won !

But jokes aside...5 million is a bit too low....don't you think ? :undecided:

I thought you welfare state nations were supposed to give huge child benefits and the sort to encourage people to have larger families.....what happened to all of that ? :what:

Any chance the Izumo or Hyuga classes well participate in US-Australian exercises - which Japan has now opted to join?

:o:NO!!! We like our land open, and it's not like Norway has a lot of livable places anyway. Lots of mountains and ice too.

*darth vader voice* come, join me, and together as father and son, we can rule the world. promote economic integration !

:D:ashamed:

No shores are safe!

And fjords ! Lots of it !

Ironically Fjord is what I yell when I'm angry:lol:.

But yes, many mountains, a lot of rivers and lakes and the more north you go the colder it gets. It's not as if Norway can support a large population anyways. However, the topography's difficulty for an invading force more that makes up for our military's lack of size.

i will visit your wonderful country and behold its beauty...

I live in Sandefjord. just saying;). There's an international airport in the city, so upon arrival you'll be nearby:azn:. Maybe you can visit?

Its nice to see Japan building great warships again. During the WWII IJN had the largest warships in the world.

IJN Shinano Aircraft Carrier

shinano.gif

Shinano (信濃?), was an aircraft carrier built by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II, the largest such built up to that time. Laid down in May 1940 as the third of the Yamato-class battleships, Shinano‍ 's partially complete hull was ordered to be converted to a supercarrier following Japan's disastrous loss of four fleet carriers at the Battle of Midway in mid-1942.

Her conversion was still incomplete in November 1944 when she was ordered to sail from the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal toKure Naval Base to complete fitting out and transfer a load of 50 Yokosuka MXY7 Ohka rocket-propelled kamikaze flying bombs. Hastily dispatched, she had an inexperienced crew, serious design and construction flaws, lacked adequate pumps and fire control system, and did not even carry a single carrier aircraft. She was sunk en route, just 10 days aftercommissioning, on 29 November 1944, by four torpedoes from the US Navy submarine Archerfish.

Some 1,435 sailors and civilians were lost, including her captain, with over a thousand more rescued. She remains the largest warship ever sunk by a submarine.

IJN Shinano had a displacement of 65,000Tons and held the record of the largest warship until USS Enterprise (CVN-65) broke that record in 1965

Oh my goodness, i can only imagine how it looks like, the feeling on one's face as the old arctic breeze hits one's face ...as one overlooks the cascading landscapes ....! Its like a setting for an awesome anime film ! ;)

Well, id love that. Maybe we can get some Norwegian coffee and enjoy some delicatessen in Sandefjord ! :)

Indeed. We had the second largest navy in the world. The largest carrier fleet in the world (at the beginning of the war) and fielded a carrier-based air fleet that numbered over 1500 at the beginning of the war.

Btw, here's a better picture of the IJN Shinano:
