What's this about J-20?

It's a popular misconception that the J-XX/J-20 is only one aircraft. In fact, there are two stealth fighters, the J-13 and the J-14. They will be used at the same time. There was a rumor that the J-14 made its first flight in May.

J-13 is for strike while J-14 is for dogfights.

Lol,J12 was a fighter the Chinese air force built in the 1970s,its in the museum now.Its nickname is 空中李向阳.
The J13 or J14 were some concept prototypes like the abandoned J9 to test the technology and possibilityThey never made any real J13 or J14.

No media outlet still seems to be even reporting it. Anything in Xinhua?

There will be some reporting done by Xinhua, in the year 2015 or so when several squadrons are already in service. Then they are going to put up a cheesy clip of the birds doing aerial manuevers.

Assuming they do what they did with J-10.

J-13 was a name given to a 1970s design. However, it was reused to name Chengdu's stealth fighter, the one that you see here.

J-14 is the name of Shenyang's stealth fighter.

J-13 is called "Peng Dragon", while J-14 is called "Peregrine Falcon"

C'mon, we live and die to see such clips. It just depends how tightly invested you are in the birds progress.

Where did you get this? Is that you who cooked the Chinese aircraft industry history without any evdidence?

Its very clear that J13 had nothing to do with CAC or 611 insititute. It mentioned that J13 was surposed to replace the J6 and the project started in 1976 by 601 or later SAC,they had seven J13 plans called J13I、II、II-1、III、IV、IV-1、IV-2,they abandonded it due to the finiance reason in March,1981.
Here is the fighter family developed in China from 1965 to 1995.

Cloneman, nobody really said anything about J-12.

The J9,J12,J13 projects were more or less correlated.China gaine a lot of experience from the failed projects.Otherwise where does the J10 come from? Most of the design about J10 was from the abandoned J9.

For God's sake, even Wikipedia articles J-XX clearly states that J-13 and J-14 were designs by CAC and SAC. The J-14 was supposedly chosen over the J-12 design (originally SAC submitted two designs). Both are simultaneously being fielded, quoting Chinese defense articles.

Yes, J-13 was a name given to a canceled project, but the name was also used for the current project (aka J-20).

So, J-13 is the J-20.
Maybe they'll give the J-13 a different designation, but the point is, there will be two 5th-generation stealth fighters, one from SAC, and one from CAC.

Okay, here is the J-14 proposal

Looks quite different from the J-20 that you see here, doesn't it?
