What will be modern Day 'D-Day' Scenario ?

If we were to lose control of the Andamans to hostile action, we'll have our own version of D-day, 1000x the difficulty. Hostile action against Andamans might sound a little far fetched, but there is a significant, if largely ignored, history behind it.

During the Indo-Pak war of 1965, The Indonesians proposed to ally with Pakistan, to the effect to forcing control of Andamans away from us. Fortuitously for us, It didn't go any further. But this does demonstrate that a threat to the island cluster does exist, and not just from the Chinese and PLAN.

@BDforever

Thats amphibious warfare in 2014

A question to the experts:

Why did the allies not use smoke cover during the D Day landings? Especially on Omaha beach?

@AUSTERLITZ @jhungary @Penguin

this is a good topic, i will put in a more detailed response on this topic tomorrow

For now i will answer @Koovie question.

The answer is simple, they need to see where they are going...

When you talking about a landing like D day, you are talking about schedule and you have your first wave, second wave and third way, and they will be landing in the same beach regardless whether or not the previous wave have left the beach.

The only way you can keep on schedule is for everyone knows where they are going

now if you fill the beace with smoke, its like you try to leave an burning airplane with smoke filled cabin, that means you would not find the exit, and if you cannot find the exit that mean you are going to be stucked in the airplane and suffocated

Same thing happened in D Day, if you cannot find the exit, you are going to get stucked and when the next wave land, you are gonna fill the beach with people dont know where to go, that will "saturate" the battlefield and making sure every round of indirect fire will score on couple of american. That is when the attacking force lay weakest

That why you keep hearing pepople scream "get out of the beach" in movie lol

Why would anyone want to go for a D-Day type of landing in this age ? Wouldn't cruise missiles and smart bombs already soften the beach up to the point of most point defenses being rendered useless before the landing happens ?

Besides you people haven't got the stomach for a D-Day esque landing anyhow; they don't make Tom Hanks like they used to so Ryan you ain't gonna be saved anyhow ! :(

If I hadn't promised Mrs.Hungary that I'd save your kester....I'd probably paint a Swastika on your butt to serve as a diversion ! :mad:

.....which arguably itself couldn't match the scale of Operation Bagration or Operaton Zitadel.

Both cannot be classified as entirely amphibious operations so I dont think they are comparable.

.
but it did not discuss how to create gap in Defensive side who might have similar tech to like early warnings, spy satellite, SAM etc
There was a part in there about starting with airstrike by F22s and some tomahawks to clear the area for foothold.

@SarthakGanguly - Lets invade Bangladesh and find out ! :smokin:

Besides the whole world knows that Bengalis can't fight ! :whistle:

And No I wasn't beaten by you ! :mad:

I was beaten by @scorpionx in '71. You can ask him; he was there at the time of the Fall of Dacca and he knows how I fed him 'special' Bengali Chum Chum which gave him terrible diarrhea and gave me the chance to flee for Burma ! :azn:
:( I love Cham Cham, or Chum Chum... though the shape is bad...or am I confusing with another sweet? :ashamed:

If u need to neutralise every pillbox and bunker with a cruise missile u'll be bankrupt/run out of stocks very quickly.Everyone talks about cruise missiles these days as if they are candy.They are not.They are less expensive than manned fighters ,but expensive nonetheless.You can't use cruise missiles on individual platoon squad-platoon sized targets.Only static rear area command hq,supply depots,fixed fortifications,bases etc.Even then cruise missiles lose much potency if faced with protected hardened targets as small warheads will do squat.
For hardened targets u need good old fashioned big heavy bunker busters delivered by manned bombers.

Ghusaa kiya karneiii key zaroorat haiii isss mein ! :(

I promise the next time I'm channeling Rommel's spirit I'd heed your advice ! :agree:

Khair what I meant was that with the advent of smart bombs, cruise missiles, smart artillery shells and overall general battle awareness; the need to land hundreds of thousands of troops on a beach for them to win the day for you or get mowed down by machine gun fire is over.

If a country goes for such a landing they'd probably soften the targets up enough with weeks of bombings that whereas it may not be a walkover but it sure as hell may not be the kind of daunting task that required Allied soldiers to brave the beaches of Normandy.
