What price did India pay to end China's Ladakh ingress?

Their demands are ridiculous to say the least. I can understand the LAC issues. But advance landing grounds and road construction is vital to our defence. As for what you mentioned, there has not been any word from the gov;t as to what they did to reach an agreement with CHina. You claim slowing down bunker construction but I am not quite sure If I believe it.

while you believe it or not, try not to speculate on sensitive issues such as this at least on this forum.

We have enough fiction writers (Hint: Post above this)

Not sure about the price payed by India but the price to be payed by China in the longterm is going to be massive. For the past 15 years Indian policy makers were indecisive on how to see China and this was advantageous for China - now their work is cut out. Still I am clueless on what China intended to achieve through this stand off.

This will go a long way in us formulating long term strategies for proper checks and balances.

True. I am glad India had this wake up call without much loss unlike in the 1962 when the price payed for the same was too much.

Yes, foolhardy I must say - without gaining any tactical, strategic, military or any other advantage whatsoever - even psychologically we have been proved right.

Even long term strategies can change anytime. If there is so much objection to bunkers and we cannot patrol then blimps should be utilized if it is possible.

Long term strategies are mostly evolving - where the target remains constant but the method changes as per requirements or circumstances. I think India should look at a strategy spanning at least a couple of decades.

I agree. I wouldn;t be surprised if India was NOT doing this properly. We need new, young fresh blood to drive us forward. I find myself in the same dilemma as you.....what was the true intent of this Chinese maneuver? I think we are not paying enough attention to this detail? There had to be a strategy in play that I simply do not see or I am not looking hard enough. Any suggestions? I put forth a possible trap, see how India responds so they can develop future counter measures, applying pressure before any visits or meetings, force India to side with Japan/US so that China wil not have any doubters in their party who object to portraying India as non aligned or no threat, etc.

I am confused too, but a couple of statements clears some of the situation - MMS calling it localised, and Menon who heads the China study group and knows China extensively suggested that things were simple and will be resolved soon and India should avoid taking am aggressive stand.

Localized is the key here - I believe the chinese were feeling threatened with a couple of outposts that were monitoring their troop movement across the LAC and this move must have been to put pressure on India to take those forward posts down.

The move seems to be a tactical one and not strategic.

china has damged whatever trust (if there was any ) was left between india and china in terms of peaceful solution to border issue. so now, expect more modernisation and heavy militarisation of chinese border by India...contrary to what the chinese have demanded.

Indians are so proud of capitulating to Chinese demands and carving away territory

Even in 1962 they fought a little bit before surrender.

Here they cried, whined, stepped back and then surrendered without firing a shot.

Get your gold from the temples, next time we do an incursion, our demand will be gold.

PS Don't forget to vote Congress :omghaha:

Will you get a chance for the bold part in your life time?

That is just one aspect - trade will take a massive blow as the balance is skewed in favor of China and Chinese companies will not be allowed to compete in many areas of infrastructure citing security reasons not to mention the strenghtening of ties with countries like Japan. Also the string of pearls theory will get a new look by the policy makers at the center and any more reassurance by China in this aspect will not cut ice.

so all in all, it can be now said....'china has screwed itself with regards to relation and trade with India.'
