Bro do a google search: top laptops 2017; best laptops 2017; bang for the buck; cost-efficient

I always choose: Due to better quality and lifespan
Intel CPU over AMD CPU
Nvidia GPU over ATI GPU

Don't forget to compare the CPU; GPU; HDD/SSD; & RAM benchmark stats of a comp you're eyeing

Well, as of now, I think Intel CPUs are better in laptop segment of the computer market than AMDs offerings. MBP 15 offers intel i7 7920 HQ that is on the top of the charts of today for laptops but it can all change in future.

On nVidia, I agree with you but the issue is that if I want to buy MBP then I have to be content with AMD Rx 560 4 GB which is comparable to nVidia GTX 1050 in performance as the latter is the only offering from the Green team (nVidia) that fits in this form factor like in Dell XPS 15" which has 0.45 lb (~ 200 grams) more weight than MBP 15".

Better GPUs like GTX 1060 and above are available in larger and bulkier laptops and that's really not my part...mostly the Engineers and Managers in my company have far more powerful machines than mine since they are the ones doing the heavy lifting while I should only be able to check their work locally before presenting it to our clients and business parnters or making decisions.

Price/Performance is a misleading parameter since it too simplistiic.

I don't really use laptops, I have a 6 year old beater dell laptop that still works fine for when I really need it and an even older (13 yr old) toshiba (mostly a portal to archaic programs that I still run, that I couldn't port over well, for comparison with what I have now regarding a few simulations). Don't know what their models are, but I would recommend them as companies (after you do more up to date research of course - I've heard horror stories too).

It might just be easiest to stick with the platform you are used to (MBP)...i Remember when Macs were scoffed at by many in my field...no longer the case.

How?
MacBook has unibody aluminum construction while Dell XPS has carbon fiber like material.
Thinkpads are the only laptops which are currently being used at space stations and other rough environments.
Macbooks are attractive but sensitive laptops .Dell business class laptops are good but they can,t stand in front of think pads.

Well, I had Thinkpad x1 carbon but its track did a lot of issues and would stop right in the middle of the work so I complained and returned it twice to get it fixed and believe you me, my experience with Lenovo customer service has not been great.

It was okay to use a mouse in my office or home but during flights it becomes impractical and inconvenient so I prefer a good trackpad during a flight especially if I'm seated in an economy class seat but even in business and first class, mouse is not desirable. Furthermore, this model is only offered with dual core CPUs with integrated graphics so any demanding application bogs down the whole system. But I really liked the sim feature for internt on the go, light weight and durable construction.

Should we pdf fraternity buy you a new laptop? ;):P

Depends on what you are looking for, a Windows based system or Mac?
I will ALWAYS prefer window base since
  1. They offer much more in terms of flexibility
  2. Are relatively cheaper, meaning, you can upgrade more frequently.
  3. AND BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER USED A Mac and have heard all sorts of wired stories about them, like very limited applications or many applications not supported etc etc.
I am using an HP Pavilion 15 (17" inch) with GEFORCE 4GB graphic card and beatsaudio sound system.

I find it:
  1. Having nice decent shape
  2. On the heavy side which is a disadvantage but i really have to go with these since i play with numbers a lot (costing and stuff) so need a system with numeric pad (no i do not like those extensions)
  3. High performance, with 8GB RAM and Core i7 6th gen 2.7 GHz processor
  4. Meets my requirement if i am in mood to play some games with that 4GB GEFORCE graphic card
  5. Excellent for movies etc
But since you are looking for light weight and if you can do without numeric pad then there are some other systems (window based) that you can look into.

REQUIREMENTS AND SORT OF WORK YOU WANT THE MACHINE TO DO FOR YOU IS IMPORTANT WHEN MAKING A DECISION SO IF YOU CAN SHARE THAT? :)

The Microsoft surface pro 4 is my absolute favorite laptop/tablet I have ever owned.

It's the best of both worlds, it's light and portable but powerful enough to do light gaming.
I would buy it again in a few years when I need to upgrade.

Paa jee, I agree with your point 1 & 2, point 3 is very subjective and depends on your requirements (if you want to play video games and CAD work, then yes win is a better option).

I have used and still use most of OS including Windows, Mac OS, Linux (a lot of distros, even I have my own customised distro for some machines), Unix (Solaris) and FreeNAS..I'm a power user so I know ins and outs of these OS. However when it comes to the laptop, I prefer Mac OS for plethora of reasons. However, now with the introduction of windows 10, I see a lot of good windows based laptops and this version of windows offer certain features that make life easier as compared to previous version of this OS but I hate the constant intrusivenesss of MS into the system by issuing unncessary alerts and notifications. Furthermore, it is prone to computer virauses and hacking more than Mac OS. Recently, NSA released a spyware/ransomware that wreaked havoc on many windows based networks in UK (NHS and Banks), Germany (Banks) and elsewhere even though the system were protected by anti-virus and security suites

Good for you bro, as I say it all depends on your needs and personal likes and dislikes.

@bold hehehehe :D:lol:
Bro, if you have gone through my posts I tried my best to elaborate my needs, what I do and what I like.
I like dedicated numeric pad when I'm on my desk and then I have some of the best mechanical keyoards to chose from along with arm rests, vertical mouse etc.

However when I'm travelling ( and I travel a lot) either by air or by the car ( in backseat) I can only use a small machine that can fit the cramped space..I am an engineer and a software developer with my own business. Initially I used to do all the coding and everything myself because it was a one man show but now I have a few excellent softwares developers working for me and I focus on expanding our work and getting business so I need a machine which is portable, reliable, long battery, still powerful enough that I can check and test some of the work by my teammates and suggest them changes on the fly., data security and integrity is of utmost importance and then fast data transfers to save time..

So the laptops I've mentioned in the poll are closer to my criteria.
