Hey Guys,

It is time to upgrade the laptop since I have been using 2014 MBP 15" for almost three years and a lot has changed. However, as compared to the yester years, now a lot of premium laptops are available from non-Apple sources i.e. windows machines.

However, my work requires a lot of travel (both long and short), presentations, coding, calculations & simulations, some photoediting & graphics work including videoediting, web-browing and even watching some movies. I'm not a fan of playing video games on a laptop ( I use a dedicated DIY Gaming PC for that) due to several reasons.

Thus I value portability (light weight, long battery life), great performance, reliability, data protection, very fast data transfers and overall faster experience. Since I have been in Apple's eco system so I have purchased most of premium apps for Mac from the Mac Store, however, that should not be the primary consideration.

One more thing, I like to use the system for at least 3-4 years before upgrading to new system.

Well you know my opinion.
I have a ~3yr old HP that I have used only a handful of times. I always use my MB Pro.

So the 13 may be slightly easier for travel but I'd still buy the 15.

Go for HP
HP ENVY X360 15-W102NE P4H65EA
(Intel Core i5 5200U 2.2GHz,
8GB RAM, 1TB,15.6 Inch FHD TOUCH -FLIP ,Windows 10)

I thought about MBP 13" a lot but since it is just 3.0 lbs (1.37 kgs) while MBP 15" is 4.0 lbs so the difference is only 1 lbs (less than a kg) but I get a much powerful machine and also like a bit bigger screen for multitasking ... So MBP 15" is a better option than 13".

A laptop with fingerprint scanner/reader :-)
The new MBPs since 2016-17 have built-in finger scanners (touch IDs). But some machines in windows have even iris and face scanners but windows is really prone to hacking if used without some good firewall and security suite.

That seems to be a very nice machine...

Never used mac before plus they charge an arm and a leg I tend to buy a laptop every 2 years or less and with prices so low on windows it just works out better.

Yes, that's true as windows offer much better bang for the buck but it all depends on the preferences.

Perhaps you want to say Macbook air but that's really underpowered and has much larger footprint than MBP 13...so it is has no place in my shortlist even if it is free

I might try a macbook just to see what the fuss is then maybe I will be in the hip cool crowd :D

I think MacBook Pro has more to it than just be a fashion accessory or a gizmo for hip crowd but if you just want to look cool and enter the Macworld, I think Macbook 12" ( not pro or air) is really perfect as it is more affordable than MBP and more stylish than any of the Macbooks and still offers a fully functional and portable computer.

.
If you use your laptop on your bed then MBP 13 if you use it only on table then MBP 15.

That's really a good point, I mostly use it on a desk or bedside desk/table but one of my main concerns is using on a long flight especially if I somehow end up getting an economy class ticket (which happens more often than I wish), can I use it easily on that cramped seat? and I found out that even a MBP 15" (2016 and 2017 models) fits OK though 13" would be even better.

I'm a 27 yrs old man and earn enough to buy a decent machine every now and then so no need to seek help from anyone rather it is time for me gift a few things to my father to show my respect and veneration for him. So this typical mentality of south asian people who live off their parents' pockets for all of their lives, does not apply to me. :-):-)

Bro do a google search: top laptops 2017; best laptops 2017; bang for the buck; cost-efficient

I always choose: Due to better quality and lifespan
Intel CPU over AMD CPU
Nvidia GPU over ATI GPU

Don't forget to compare the CPU; GPU; HDD/SSD; & RAM benchmark stats of a comp you're eyeing
