So what is the minimum wage in your country?

Minimum wages are dictated by societies capacity to pay. Govt defined minimum wages are around Rs. 15000 per month. However, the actual range is between Rs. 15000-20000 depending on business. Nominally, it translates to AUD 190-250 per month. But nominal figures don't count in comparison between different economies, rather we compare the amount of things it can purchase. So, when it comes necessities, real minimum wages considering purchasing power parity is between AUD 500 - 800 per month. Next you can easily judge the buying and consumption pattern as well as the living standard of a Pakistani living on minimum wages by comparing it to an Australian living on AUD 500-800 per month.

I don't think India. Pakistan or China is fucked but I was disgusted with some of the things I saw the waste of water was shocking to me.

In Australia we have very strict rules on saving water every household has to install a rain water tank and we have to pay a lot for our water bills, just our water bill for my family is about $500 not sure how much in India/Pakistani rupees that is.

The water rates here in Australia might seem high but you can see them working on the water infra all the time new pipes etc. We don't mind paying high taxes, land rates, water rates etc because the public can see work being done for example if the footpath is broken we can just call the local council and within 24 hours they will come fix it.

In my area local council leave construction and road building vehicles on the side of the road and a small job might literally take months and hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars.

A private contractor will work fast to get the job done to mitigate costs and expenses. Local council don't give a shit and work like geriatric obese monkeys.

On the note of minimum wage, 600 - 700 will put you in a very bad spot here in Sydney. Lets say rent a cheap place in western Sydney = 400 - 500 dollars a week. utilities + food = 150 dollars. Petrol = 40 dollars.

In the end, your fcuked on minimum wage.

The government spends ridiculous sums to single mothers who are usually teenage brats. Just drive by a Centrelink office and see the huge gathering of lazy cheats leeching the system to death. Welfare parasites might get as much as someone on minimum wage depending on their circumstances.

I’m sure they don’t treat it as much as the water here. We also do fluoride/chlorine plus other crazy stuff like ozone and ultraviolet lights.

However we probably get far more rain so that offsets things. Maybe they will have to think about seawater solutions in the future or snatching some Antarctic ice.

We are talking about laborers, normally the minimum wage applies to that class. The laborers mostly work on daily wages, normal employees of a corporation work for a monthly salary with some perks etc. It all depends on nature of employment, contractual, permanent or daily wager etc

In my city Hyderabad a mason will get about Rs700 ($11) a day and laborer about Rs600($9) and women laborer Rs500($8). In small towns and villages it is about Rs 400 per day for day laborer.

cost of water is actually the cost of bringing water to consumer, Canada having 1.3 of world's fresh water still costs me around 200 a month.

It is mostly on paper and applies to organised sector. In India minimum wage varies from state to state and also one sector to other. It is further divided by skilled, semi skilled and unskilled.

I am talking about unorganised sector. There was proposal at the center to make Rs18,000 as the minimum wage across India but was widely opposed by states.

But you see, 10000 Pkr is roughly 125 australian dollars. And a family of 2 can easily live on this amount here in Pakistan for a month. But can you say the same about australia ? I can bet that you wont be able to live a week on 125 australian dollars in australia let alone a month. Its not the 'treating inhuman" attitude but the class difference between these two societies. Australia is a developed country, our is a under-developed country whose 50-60% population is dependent on agriculture.

Btw talking about "inhumane treatment" next time when you hire labor to do some construction work or any other task, pay them 2000 Pkr/day instead of 500. I think that will be acceptable to both of you. Right ?
