I suggest the following combo. Ground surveillance radars which can detect and track cars from dozens of kilometers away. Anti tank guided missile systems for the kill from at least several kilometers away.

No good. Suicide car blast lethal at 100 meters. Machine gun fire is too close for comfort.

In urban setting they use vbied to attack checkpoints to open way for a larger assault. The disadvantage is there are corners and you cant be sure that the vehicle has bomb and it can get close.

The advantage is you know the roads that the vehicle can come from. There are bomb sensors when car passes over it that can detect it has bomb. It can be weight based sensor or something else to detect the bomb.It can be placed on roads coming prior to the checkpoint and all vehicles have to pass over the sensor. This will alert the soldiers at the checkpoint giving time to respond.


In battlefield setting like the vbied attacks against SAA positions in recent raqqa operation the responsibility is on the recon teams. The area is generally large and it is difficult to hide but they can come frim anywhere 360 degrees. By using diversion, weather conditions and large blast radius bomb trucks they resulted in shock and casualties and it was one of the reasons that caused SAA tactical retreat.Also it seems they somehow learned the positions of SAA to make precise attacks.So their prior knowledge of army positions should be considered next time.

In battlefront case in my opinion sensors-cameras can be attached to balloon type simple uavs that is attached to apc or tank like a kite. It has no fuel limitation as well as energy can be supplied by apc to the cameras above reducing battery limitation. It can significantly enhance sustained visible range of mechanised divisions giving them time to strike the vbieds by atgms from longer ranges.

Not really they have armor vs. 7.62 at most.

12.7 mm can penetrate about 20 mm of steel and 14.5 mm about 50 mm. Equip it with optic sight and u can easily take out any suicide car.

Machine gun has bullet drop. No good if car is coming head on. Better to use ATGM which does not drop.

50 cal has the range as well as power to kill the driver/engine of the car before it reaches near.Their car might be armored,but glass will not.
