I would say not thousands but hundreds of these canonS are using against militants hideouts in FATA. This light machine is serving every corner of FATA.

nice pic - chinese perhaps - 80mm!:undecided:

. . .
It is not a 25 pounder Gun/Howitzer. Generally the 25 pounder has a muzzle brake - this one does not.

It is definately a British QF 3.7" Mountain Howitzer. The weapon was put into service somehere in 1917 by the Indian Army.

It says a lot about the equipment of our FC and the fight against the terrorist in FATA -- are we really serious about it???

Where exactly does pakistan operate the larger caliber stuff ? These mountain cannons may be portable which is surely a plus but accuracy and range woud be pretty suspect.

I think this belongs to the Frontier constabulary(its kinda strange tht even militia(local police) have these?maybe to defend their posts or something).... But PA is using arty in all fronts from swat valley to waziristan to soften the ground.

I think pakistan should try to aquire more Panters from us for their towed artillery(it would be the best way to standardize to 155mm). I know a small number was sold but no follow up orders were placed.

I don't think there is anything wrong with light howitzers in large numbers. They can be effective in mountainous terrain.

Weapons like mortars and howitzers have been around for a hundred years and are still effective.

FC is paramilitary. So they are suppose to have these things not A100s.

BTW i am more concerned about what is written on the barrel of that gun. I can read OF LIFE. whats the whole sentence.?

large calibre guns/howie's are used from 'rear' areas to soften-up the militants before the ground troops move-in. that is why PA has requested the 105mm light/portable howitzer from the US to use in the hilly terrain.

tanks are also being used upto sqdn level (4-tanks) but their access is limited.

. .
Are these the M 777 that have been requested from US?

M 777 is a 155mm caliber howitzer, not much suitable in our case since we have no heavy airlift capability.

105mm caliber guns would be much suited as they can be transported to hilly areas and are smaller in nature also.

If what fatman17 said is correct, then most probably its the M119 105 light howitzer that has been requested, but Pakistan already has 105mm in the shape of the US M101 howitzers, so am not sure if Fatman means extra guns from US reserves of the M101 model or newer model guns.
