Of course there is a such thing as Bangladeshi Sayyids, 360 awliya never came to my region for no reason. I don't have any family there because they have all settled in Bangladesh.

So why do some Bangladeshis have the name Thakur, for a piss about?

Okay my Arab friend I believe you.
To be a Thakur you need to be either Brahmin, Rajput, Maratha or Jat etc and own land. You also need to have the title awarded to you by a local chief, my family gained that ur title from the ruler of the Bettiah Raj. My family owns some of the most land in our district. Now the problem is, majority of Bengali Brahmins are in West Bengal while the Arab wannabes stayed in Bangladesh. They are most likely fakes who are imitating the Hindu Thakurs of West Bengal.

i really despise you,you are shame for the word Indian.common marathis are very genuine, very friendly and gem of a person.
I disagree.
Having spent 4 years of my life in Maharashtra, I found 'em hard to mingle with. They always had an air about themselves. Don't mean to sound rude, but I really find it hard to gel with maharashtrians.

My Boomihar friend let me ask you a question, you are saying converts from Hinduism cannot retain their surname? Just like the Choudhurys of Bangladesh or the Taluqdars etc..

I'm sure it had nothing to do with the fact that they were irked by your excessive consumption of coconut chutneys ! :tsk:

Do they come from land owning families, yes or no? Thakurs usually own large amounts of land or have relatives that do.
