What? AAP & Onion scam? No way...mom

Unfortunately, I am living in a practical world not an ideal world. I do not want to paint all levels of corruption as the same.

Do consider a peon taking money to move your file faster through the bureaucracy same as an army major or minister taking money to sell your defense secrets to your enemy ? Do consider death by suicide, unintentional Homicide, death in war and death by terrorism to be the same as the final result is death?

Hindu dharma (law) does not paint all with the same brush. In fact, it uses the much maligned caste system to deliver maximum punishment to the highest caste and lowest punishment to the lowest caste for the same crime.
all the examples you gave are corrupt...They arent thinking of the nation so why call them patriot?

Unintentional cant be labeled as it wasnt intended ....terrorists who are maligning the economy of the country, hurting the citizens and causing a loss to the country cant be patriots!

Good to know this part

Sorry I didnt get you!

Let me elaborate. In the story of Mahabharat, Yudhisthira was the king who was famous for adhering to the law and delivering justice. One day there were four people brought to his court for colluding and committing the same crime together. The four belonged to four different castes - A farmer (belonging to the caste of Sudra), a shopkeeper (belong to the caste of Vaisya), a Soldier (belonging to the caste of Ksyatriya) and a teacher (belonging to the caste of Brahmin).

Following was the order of the hierarchy and the punishments delivered for the same crime that they committed

1) Brahmin (highest caste) - Teacher - Death
2) Ksyatriya - Soldier - Life time jail
3) Vaisya - Shopkeeper - Monetary Fine
4) Sudra - Farmer - left with a warning

.
I know what you are talking about....And I am pointing at a patriot as per its definition...there is no such thing as fake patriots...its either you are or you arent....Maybe you have SOME feelings for your country but that doesnt make you a patriot....The min you CAN harm your own country or its people, you cant possibly vigorously support it....the word is not for every tom dick and harry.....it is a word with meaning and it cant fit a corrupt!
We are back to square one

I guess you have never seen a butcher who is very kind to his pet dog, neither have you seen a tough police inspector being very affectionate with his kids. Some dacoit or prostitute could be more humanitarian than average people.

If a person is corrupt but not to the extent of selling his country then he has some patriotism still left inside him.

Now applying the lessons from the old story for the current age, let's say we have a Defense Scientist (today's Brahmin) gives an important file to his peon to be passed to a Taxi owner at the gate who would take the file to an army major to be delivered to the enemy, what should be their punishment? Should it be the same as they all colluded and committed the same crime of transferring the defense secrets to the enemy?

Per Hindu law, the punishment for the Scientist should be the greatest as he has the most knowledge and knows the importance of that information. This would be followed by the punishment to the army major who has decent knowledge. On the other hand the punishment for the peon should be the lowest as he hardly could read or understand the contents of the file that he was passing.

None of these are misnomers

Patriotic is a word with its meaning
Corrupt has its own meaning

Both cant be in the same side based on their definition!

Patriotism isnt just selling the country it is causing ANY harm to the country and protecting it from ANY harm

Let me ask you a question. If you were given an option to choose the prime minister of the country with the following options, who would you choose?

Options 1 : A person who would never sell his country to the enemies but greedy enough to make money by stealing the government funds

Option 2: A totally uncorrupt person who is a proxy of your enemy

.
Well if Musharaff stole from Pakistan (corruption) then he isnt as patriotic as people make of him...But truth is he hasnt really stolen...He just made wrong choices and was forcefully on the seat which for 5 yrs wasnt too bad but there were other problems and corruption wasnt an issue....

Mismanagement was a bigger problem I guess....Having corrupts in his party prob was another problem!

So wrong example!
Do watch another guy berating General Musharraf, I guess this is how the Civil govt has decided to counter the popularity of establishment

I would choose none....go for army rule....although there are some bad eggs in the army (small minority) but they wont sell their country....the bad eggs are citizens not patriots....

maybe...I hate talk shows....a lot of shouting and nothing is achieved just hurling mud at each other....almost like a drama!

Well in India, we do not have the third option of an army rule...And what is the guarantee that army does not fall into the same two buckets for the civilians listed above?

Discipline....

90% of them in the Army are disciplined nothing like the never slapped spoilt rich brats who cant take a no for an answer

2ndly, they have morals - different story if the institute is rotting and everyone is doing some bad then some tend to follow....but that is the case for most politicians too....only 0.1% prob really want to put in an effort for the nation!

What I totally agree is that it is not the form of the government (democracy, dictatorship, king, republic, communist, socialist and whatever name) that matters but the capabilities and intentions of the people who form and run such government.

The adjectives used to either prop up or tarnish different forms of governments is just a political game...
