Were British cruel towards the people of the subcontinent?

Were British cruel towards the people of the subcontinent?

Jallianwala bagh incident - Haven't countries of the subcontinent taken similar actions to protect law & order and sovereignty ?

Bengal Famine - Can an action of one person symbolize British empire?

Economic Exploitation - Doesn't the current governments exploit resources? How many subcontinent countries have exploited the resources that improved the lives of the common man than a few rich? British did bring technology, provided opportunities to study in England for the rich and provided job opportunities for the poor across their colonies around the world.

People of the subcontinent were certainly not slaves. They had enough freedom to live, study and prosper.

Judging history by modern standards is never robust.

Correction here. Hindus were also equally responsible for destroying Buddhism in India. The Sena rulers, King Shasanka and etc other Hindu rulers were also primarily responsible for destroying Buddhism. The Nalanda was destroyed many times prior to Bakhtiyar khilji's conquest and Shashanka on one instance destroyed part of the Nalanda temple. Also Hindu kings of the Deva dynasty installed a Shivlingam in Bodh gaya, the most sacred site of Buddhism.

King Shashanka is just one king who acted against the buddhist, and that too for possible political reasons and not religious reasons.

There was no systemic violence on buddhist by hindu king or by hinduism.

Most of the fight were settled by shastrath debate between scholars as was the custom of the day.

Nalanda itself was a university that stared out as a Hindu university. It started teaching Buddhism much later in its long history. Even then the students learnt Mahayana as well as the Vedas. It taught texts from the eighteen (Hinayana) sects of Buddhism and Hindu texts of logic, Sanskrit grammar, medicine and Samkhya.

So any attack on Nalanda was not religious, it was political. Possibly to kill political refugees and masterminds.

Similarly Gaya was an ancient Hindu town mentioned in the Vishnu puran. He existed before Buddha and was a an important cultural city. That is why Buddha visited there.

In any case, how can the installation of a Shiva lingam in any ancient Hindu town be offensive to Buddhism ?

When people read commie books, that's when they sprout nonsense of Buddhism being targeted by Hindus.

Buddhism thrived until Mughals came.
And we all know what happened from then to the destruction of Buddhist statues by Taliban.

Proof is on camera.
