Oh yes, they are down in the dumps all right with 9% unemployment and a budget deficit which is 10% of their GDP. They have to do something very drastic and do it soon if they are to come out of this mess anytime soon. However, it will be tad premature to write them off yet. The internal conflicts of the US will bring it down. Their Military Industrial complex, the Corporate manipulation of the American democracy will bring it down, not Iraq or Afghanistan. The American Laissez-faire will bring it down. Remember Ayn Rand? Totally rampant and unregulated capitalism will bring down the USA. But not in our life time, I think.

The only thing that saves US at the moment is that the US$ dollar is the reserve currency. the brics have already along with many other countries have suggested that this should be changed. Its only a matter of time and in my opinion this will happen within 5 to 10 years. Simple mate you cant live beyond your means.

An A plus to you for your observation. However, economics would have us believe that what is true for you and me need not be so for nations comprising of millions (or billions) of us. A small amount of deficit financing is good for the economics of nations, as per Adam Smith, if one wants to believe the father of modern economics.

Regarding the Dollar convertibility or the Bretton Woods system, what other option do we have? Yes, the BRICS have suggested that it be changed. But changed to what? The Euro? (think again). The Yen? (ask China). The Chinese Renminbi? Not sufficiently acceptable on a global scale as yet. Do we go back to the ancient gold standard? What will it change? The US holds the second largest reserves of gold after the EU. China is 6th on that scale, Russia is 8th and India is 11th. Other BRIC countries are nowhere in sight.

Like I said buddy, the status quo in the international scheme of thing is likely to continue for a while now.

Had the ppl laid down USSR could have lasted for another 20 + years, but the struggle put up by afghans speed their down fall, so it is safe to say that jihad brought down USSR along with other reasons.

Weapons from israel , u.s or from mars doesnot matter, soviets were occupying eastern europe those same weapons could have helped them and engaged soviets in long war.

If the west can claim they brought down the soviets jihadies and their supporters can also claim they brought them down coz they fired the last shot on the falling elephant.
