We are living in a volatile region: air chief

LAHORE: We are living in a volatile region where events change rapidly, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said while addressing airmen at the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base at Rafiqui in Shorkot on Tuesday.

On his arrival at the base, he was presented with a guard of honour. He also reviewed the parade presented by the base personnel. The air chief said, “Events leading to friendship turn into those of hostility within hours as witnessed during November-December last year. We must, therefore, always be ready to protect our aerial frontiers and respond with full force.” Emphasising on training, he said, “To be able to handle the 21st century weapons systems, a complete overhauling of training psyche and methodology is required. At the same time, the PAF needs to transform its maintenance system.” Suleman said, “My work methodology will be based on delegation of authority through responsibility and accountability, which will be adjudged by the principles of integrity, professional excellence and teamwork.”

Talking to the pilots, Suleman said, “Whenever there has been a crisis, the air force has always come up to the nation's expectations and that's why it is called “pride of the nation”. He said the PAF enjoyed ‘sound respect’ among the world's air forces. “To meet an eventuality, you must train hard to acquire highest levels of operational standards. Only then we can assure the nation that the PAF is ready to respond to any challenges,” he added.

* Rao Qamar asks PAF to maintain highest level of operational preparedness to keep external threats at bay

KAMRA: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) is being equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and technology as per schedule, Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman said on Thursday.

Addressing PAF officials at PAF Minhas Base, he asked officers to be ready to face any challenge.

Threats: "We must honour our operational skills and maintain the highest level of operational preparedness, as the country is facing internal and external threats which are to be kept at bay. We must therefore always be ready to protect our aerial frontiers and respond with full force," the air chief said.

While pledging to strengthen PAF further, Rao said to meet and absorb “the 21st century weapon systems, a complete overhauling of training psyche and methodology is required. At the same time, PAF needs to transform its maintenance system". Expressing his views about flight safety, he said war assets of PAF should be protected so that they could be used at the appropriate time.

"Flight safety culture must be adopted as a way of life in PAF. We have to strive for preserving the various weapon systems. Men in blue must strive for zero accident rate and preserve its assets for the day when they may be required operationally."

He said the PAF pilots had a huge responsibility on their shoulders, as “you are the ones who will be delivering the final punch. Whenever there has been a crisis in the past, PAF has always come up to the nation's expectations".
