Way to solve labor shortage? Myanmar workers working in the factories in China

why cannot you give them nationality and green card. if even with a billion plus people you are so insecure then how do you think you will play a leadership role in international arenaa ?

Because of family planning. The Chinese have paid too much for family planning, so the Chinese are very sensitive to immigrants.
China is a country with accountability system. If the govt agrees to amend the nationality law, it means that family planning is the wrong policy.
Mistakes must be held accountable. China has implemented the family planning policy for decades, and I'm afraid more than 10 million civil servants need to be held accountable.
Therefore, whether it is domestic public opinion or political influence, nationality and green card are China's political correctness.

In 2017, the Communist Youth League of China conducted online voting to ask netizens' opinions on accepting immigrants. 97.5% of Chinese people oppose accepting immigrants, 2% vote neutral, and most of those who agree to accept immigrants are Taiwan netizens.

your poll is for refugees. Northern Myanmar's immigrants are different.

This footage shows Burmese workers going to the dining hall for lunch in a factory in a Chinese border city, For money, they all make a fraction of what Chinese workers make and they work long hours, 12-14 working hours a day, factory bosses like to hire them casuse they are hardworking and never complain, they are very content with the working condition and the money which are already several times better than what they can get in Myamar. China is surrounded by heavily populated low income countries to her south, geographically they are very close to China's manufacturing powerhouse Guangdong province, is it a easy and simply way to alleviate larbor shortage in south China?

With growing obstacles in the path of Chinese products in Western countries, would it not make sense to do offshoring, entering into joint ventures with foreign firms, and export from abroad/3rd party destinations to circumvent any tariff or trade barrier of geopolitical nature?

Labor from North Korea is working both in China and Russia.

.
It's not simple or easy, since China is just too large for foreign workers to alleviate the labor shortage in any meaningful way. For some smaller Chinese cities, maybe.

Even if the whole Myanmar workforce of 23mil people move to China (which is obviously not possible), it's only going to buy China like 3 years time.

Myanmar's not the only country China can draw workers from in a pinch there's also Laos, Cambodia, North Korea, Vietnam among others. Actually, in China's border areas, there's already a large number of foreign workers. Chinese leaders aren't dumb. They know this labor crunch is coming and surly have a plan. It seems like in the short term China will increase the retirement age and invest heavily in automation.

China doesn't only sell to Western countries.

There is no difference between refugees and immigrants. You can see from the comments that every Chinese is struggling with the contradiction between family planning and the introduction of foreign population. That's why I said that China needs foreign labor, but China can only provide medical insurance, endowment insurance and other benefits to the foreign labor, not nationality, even Green cards are difficult.

Trade is business as usual, China and US trade hit record high in the first half of the year 2021, China also became the biggest trading partner of EU for the first time in the history. China remains the biggest trading partner of US, India, Australia, Uk, Korea and Japan.

How are you managing to keep your industry competitive even with rising worker wages?

I am engaged in cemented carbide industry. In this industry, labor costs account for only a small part. The cost of materials, logistics, R&D and industrial chain far exceeds that of labor.

.
Our population problem has been screwed up, accept the reality.
We are the third fool in East Asia, the first two fools are South Korea and Japan. We will soon face negative population growth, it's a good thing to bring in some labor from abroad, don't be picky.
Even we can not give them nationality and green card, but we should give them medical insurance and endowment insurance.

There are a large number of Vietnamese workers in the sugarcane fields in Guangxi. It only needs 5000 CNY a month, it's easy to hire enough Vietnamese.
Really? 5k yuan is $775 per month is not bad.
I am not aware that China has sugarcane plants which usually are more in common in tropical countries.

Chinese are more nationalistic than people assume. Typical habit for northern Asians. Japan and Korea share the same habit.
Viet people despite sinolistic are less nationalistic or xenophobic.

Has increasing automation had a role to play in addressing labor costs issue wherever it arises? Automation entails a one-time investment. So, by moving towards less labor-intensive, value-added manufacturing, China has ensured that it maintains favorable trade positions with its trading partners, in short?

Like I said, even if the whole Burmese workforce move to China it's still not going to stop China's decline in labor force. My point is, China's decline in labor force is too large in absolute numbers, and even importing neighboring countries' whole labor force (which is obviously impossible) is not gonna reverse the decline.

It seems like in the short term China will increase the retirement age and invest heavily in automation.

Yes, like other developed countries. But still, declining by 35mil workers in the next 5 years and an accelerated decline beyond that, will continue to pose a tremendous pressure.

Your point is absolutely correct.

If China, with a population of 1.4 billion, lacks workers, how many people will it take to fill that void? The notion that hiring foreigners can solve the labor shortage in China is not true.

The labor prices in Guangxi and Hunan are similar. For high-intensity jobs, such as decoration workers, primary construction workers, etc., their salary is about 300 CNY per day. Foreign workers are lower, about 5000cny a month.

You're lying. If the Vietnamese had no nationalism, your nation would not live until now.
Vietnam and South Korea bordering China. For thousands of years, South Korea has survived by flunkeyism, while Vietnam has survived by nationalism.

The new equipment has more obvious effect on improving the quality of products. It does not play much role in saving labor costs. For heavy industry, we prefer highly paid skilled workers to cheap novices.
