this is a common refrain i hear from all north indians...that south indians dont join much meaning to say as if they are afraid of fighting....dude there are few people from south because there are far better economic opportunities here than joining the army...please dont tell me that all the north indians joining the army do so for the love of the country.....most join becasue it provides a stable source of income and not much background is required.... thats the hard truth...some may join becaus eof the true love for motherland which they do from south also....but economics plays a huge role in the disparity between north and south in army...

Please pay a visit to a North Indian state specially rural areas and you would know why people want to join the Army.

People started refuting the comments to the original poster and dragged themselves into the same South Vs North discussion.

I dont know how people compare such things. North have plenty of states in comparison to South. If I take Language based differentiation then Tamil originated states are 4 and while Devnagari based plenty of others. This south vs North division was too much before 2000 but after IT boom everything got changed.

Due to evolution of Infosys and other org, North Indian people started migrating to Bangalore and Chennai while for the same monitoring and high positions South Indians later moved to North India. Now population of North > Population of South. So Changes looks more obvious for N Indians.

In Delhi, RK Puram & Munirka area is full of S Indians and Noida is another area due to HCL. I have been to bangalore, Mumbai and Currently in Delhi, I found the best cosmopolitan city is Mumbai. Reason is it is having, Gujratis, Bhaiyyas (us), Parsis, Marathi, Malyalis (they love to go to Mumbai in comparison to Chennai, dont know why?), Telugus and then Tamilians. I never found such a large variation in any other city. Another point is, except Shiv Sena, Attitude in mumbai is truly cosmopolitan.

A bit of a generalization but, in my experience, south Indians/Tamils/Bengalis tend to be more intellectual, whereas north Indian/Punjabi/Biharis tend to be more macho.

lol is this the problem...fyi no school in tamil nadu or atleast the majority dont sing the national anthem every day....some sing only on mondays and many only on aug 15th and jan 26th...oct 2 always falls on qaurterly holidays so no chance...tell the truth have you gone to indepedence day celebs in your school or was watching tv in home..?..i hardly ever went...

In North India we proudly sing the national anthem everyday. There is no day when we didnt singh it in the school days

We do have our differences and its a common thing but in the tough times we are united like in a war or like now in Anti corruption movement we are together.

Omg! Stop this North vs South!

It's getting kinda boring now. And at the end of the day we're all Indians.

Oh yaar, enough with South and North,I m a northie and met a lot of Southies...trust me if someone else has met all this in the article is BS and just made to earn his/her bread and some points.Yes cultures are different, but there are conflicts/hatred?PFFT!

North, South, East and West sucks!!!! ...

Islands like Lakshadeep and Andamans Rules.:chilli:

Not all join for the love of coutnry...most join because it tends to be good employment for people with limited background...this ophenomenon is not limited to india...but this is the phenomenon all over the world....

people also join because they feel they need to do something for their motherland...such peop[le are there all over india...and that is what i say...

In North India we proudly sing the national anthem everyday. There is no day when we didnt singh it in the school days

well even if we sung it only two days in a year our loyalty towards the country is not down one bit......but yes i feel that the national anthem must be sung every day and the national pledge also be told..thats a good practise...

@National anthem thing:
100% sure all schools in Delhi,Chandigarh and Amritsar sing the National anthem everyday,i have stayed in the 3 cities for quite some time. That's my guarantee.
And Fun Cinemas play the national anthem everytime before they project a film in their theaters
