According to Sputnik

In an interview with Sputnik Vietnam, former Deputy Defense Minister, Col. Gen. Nguyen Van Duoc said that his country owned much of its military potential to the assistance it once received from the Soviet Union and the weapons now being supplied it by the Russian Federation.

a Kilo-class Russian diesel-electric submarine, armed with Kalibr missiles, the last of the six such vessels ordered by Hanoi, is on the way to Vietnam.

A second pair of Gepard-class frigates is now in the final stages of their trials in the Black Sea and will soon be handed over to the Vietnamese Navy, in addition to as many supplied earlier.

Russia and Vietnam have signed a raft of arms-delivery contracts worth over 4.5 billion dollars.

The list of Russian military supplies to Vietnam include Tor, Buk and S-300 air defense systems and the sides are currently negotiating the supply of the state-of-the-art S-400 missile systems.

Russian Mi-8 helicopters are the backbone of Vietnam’s combat helicopter fleet and Russia has also supplied 10 Su-27 fighters and 32 Su-30MK2 multi-role fighters that offer enhanced combat capabilities against aerial, ground and sea-based targets.

Russia has also provided the Vietnamese Navy with high-speed Svetlyak-class frigates and a number of Tarantul-class missile corvettes.

After watching the performance of Molniya-class guided missile boats, the Vietnamese military started building them under license in Vietnam.

Russia has supplied Vietnam with the Bastion mobile coastal missile complex that can effectively protect a 600-kilometer stretch of the coastline and keep an eye on up to 200,000 square kilometers of open water area.

Dekhra nahi kya ? Achievements par achievements . Aadad hogaye kya sirf PR par PR ?

India has extended a $100 million line of credit to Vietnam.

If Vietnam value the lives of its own soldiers, than they should get only joint venture Indian weapons.

Even if Indian Establishment decides to sell Akash Air Defenses System to any country , then even have to think about the Indian maintainence crew to be deployed .

Its on Indian establishment and Indian Military planner.

Big difference in 'india offers' & 'india sells'
Well, "actively discussing the possible sale" has been the wording. You can't/don't have a discussion if the intended potential buyer has no interest whatsoever. Also mentioned is this: "Sources said Vietnam has shown 'deep interest' in the acquisition of Akash missiles, asking for transfer of technology and joint production of the air defence system.", which conferms that there is indeed interest in buying. Just not an actual sale yet. To me, "Talks are in progress to arrive at a common plan." sounds like they are seriously working on negotiating a deal that is beneficial to both.

It is literally a junk since even the Indian army is rejecting it. LOL
Oh? So how come 3000 missiles have been produced? And if not working, how come that the air force has bought 7 additional squadrons (in spite of Army not b uying additional systems)?

In May 2008, the Indian Air Force decided to induct two squadrons (totaling 4 batteries) of Akash missile. On 3 March 2012, the missile was officially inducted into Indian Air force. On September 1, 2015, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) cleared the purchase of seven additional squadrons of the Akash missile for the Indian Air Force.

In June 2010, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) placed an order of the Akash missile system. In March 2011, a report indicated that the Indian Army has ordered 2 Akash regiments – approximately 2,000 missiles .On 5 May 2015 Akash Missile was inducted into the Indian Army. On 30 March 2016, Indian Army stated that Akash area defence missile systems did not meet its operational requirements for defending its strike corps against enemy air attacks in forward areas, and was not ordering any more regiments.

Frankly speaking, the chance Vietnam buy some significant weapons from India, let alone air defence sys, is as high as the chance the US buy Chinese air defence system to fight aliens.

Just a question will few Small range SAMS makes a difference??

It is a defensive weapon, after other forms of self-defence are exhausted. Naturally it will have small range because that is what it was supposed to manage.

So unless and until some country is trying to invade Vietnam, I really don't see what anyone has to worry about.

Even bigger news is that, this news finally reached you after so many decades.
Well, from the beginning of last year, the approval of the local private enterprises engaged in ammunition production,Can be regarded as a progress.

Xin lỗi anh em, hôm nay em hơi say một chút. Năm mới chúc anh em khựa chết con mẹ hết đi.

Funny how a certain nation imports 50 billion worth of junk...does it make India a junkyard? LOL

Their own army don't want it and now try to dupe Vietnamese and dump this junk on them?

On a serious note, why Vietnamese don't go to the source Russia to buy weapons instead of going through India middleman?
