it's awe-inspiringly ugly.

the neo-rich middle classes of india and china think development means a clutter of ugly tall buildings.
They are not playing Ping Pong in that many buildings, they are the billionares Hub now.
And plz dont compare South asians to chinese, their is no comparison to make

those floods of billionaires became billionaires not by running luxury cruise ships for the old-money types but by selling useless items like cell phones and video game machines and personal cars and ugly apartment blocks, and all this to who but the idiotic and apathy-filled middle class. :)

and i being a socialist don't care for "the billionaires" unless they are doing good for humanity like elon musk and jeff bezos.

nor am i desperate to live there. :)
Well, sometimes I do got my reservation on city Chongqing(pics shown above) too thinking its layout plan lacks pre-considerations and as a result of which Chongqing looks like a big chaotic cluster of concretes, however there are also many successful examples in terms of city layout.

Isn't this much better?

I think it at its very least looks tons of times better than Mumbai(no retaliatory or national sentiment involved,I'm just stating a very fact),hope you can hang in there

those two pictures certainly show lesser density than those in the op but if the intention of the designers was to replicate american cities they should have looked at the american suburbs :

since they were developing so many things from the foundation they should have thought deeply - suburbs-style housing and elegant roman and egyptian and west asian architecture for markets, cinema halls etc.

what say, @Hamartia Antidote ??

no offense taken... i don't like bombay ( now called mumbai ) either.

there is bollywood there which is good and the old-style cottages but otherwise not a place worthy of mention.

and the two pictures you posted are no different from the the newer pictures of bombay i see, only more reminiscent of big usa city "business districts".

and i must ask the intention of @Windjammer in thanking your post.

Intention is to provide more commercial space for business. So why bother about its beauty.
Being a socialist cant you make out the difference btwn needs & wants ? If ppl are provided 1000sqft of proper living space that should be good enuf. More ever cities grow too fast to do proper planning.

Time to start having a realistic view & practical thinking. :)

how is a socialist expected to realize the needs and wants of nonsense capitalist enterprises?? :what:

and why should cities "grow too fast"?? why can't designers build even satellite townships which have their individual character??

on this world people need to live in harmony with nature, so a single-storey house set within a small garden and this all set within a tree-lined area etc.

and does "realistic and practical thinking" mean a place like busy and middle-class-professionals-filled city like bangalore which is the suicide capital of india??

is that practical enough for you?? :)

Given that you are a person frowning upon urban areas,I relinquish my right of debating with you on that

you misunderstand. :)

i am very much a urban/city person and want all villages to be gathered into localized townships ( say the population of 20 villages into one township ) which are compulsorily urbanized in culture.

what i am suggesting in this thread is that cities which are composed of tall towers don't have much of intellectual development and harmonious living.

Cities like Chongqing,Shanghai or even Nyc Chicago are not Silicon Valley where developments are supported by High Tech and Innovations,I'm sure massive countries like the USA China India all got the cities that meet your standard in tems of what you recommend to propel its economy,if you don't like massive constrctions and trade, fine,I'm sure you abound with choices, but nowhere is as utopian as you think,as long as it's a metropolis
