War Stories corner : Story 3 - Best Customer in Nam

Oo I thought airborne was included in Ranger course.

You're grown old since the day you start remembering. Feeling old, being old is good but don't be antique though, lol. I am glad you're okay. I remember, I have a degree on sailing, done many VBSS demos, but one day we were on our way to the ROTC from Heybeliada island on a landing craft. I got sea sick and have threwn out. It sucked at that moment, it sucks even worse when you realize you did it. Lol. Anyways for the next article, I'd like to see it technically detailed as much as possible, of course within your OPSEC conjuncture. How did you get well? A friend of mine had the same and the guy was like born out of hell. He was at bed for like 5 weeks.

Yeahh
I was a war story buster until I joined the navy. My granny was an airborne officer during Cyprus invasion, never told the the moment they put their boots on the ground. Same with dad, he did his national service in Northern Iraq at Gendarmerie SOF, couldn't dare to tell memories. Its like they live inside us in a box locked up. Better not tell it like a story. In fact, its far better when you don't talk don't tell anything regardless the person you talk with. It just makes me feel better, you suffer the same pain when you talk. But we're not here for emotions do we :)

Well, Airborne School and Ranger School is separated qualification, you can get in Ranger School without getting Airborne Tab. But then if you are not airborne qualified, you will be trucked and bused to your final exercise instead of making a big entrance from the air if you are airborne qualified

Another requirement for getting into Ranger Course is from Sapper School. But yeah, most ranger are airborne qualified anyway.

I have 3 articles lined up, one is about battlefield management, one is about combat search and rescue and another war story, one of mine in Iraq.

Well, I too growth up hearing story from my grand father, he is a kind of happy gone lucky person, he was a Bombardier of a B-17 during 1942-1944, he lost 30 mates with his tour and shot down over Germany 3 times., one of them he is the sole survivor.

He used to sat us down and tell us the story he have flying the B-17 every time when we gone visit, and he used to let us play with his footlocker.

P.S. I stayed in bed for about 20 days.........So I am not really far from your friend lol.

I can't imagine what soldiers really go through, war is devastating for both sides but to live with the memory of it is much worse :)

Soldier went thru a lot worse, people tend to see the glory of it, medals, uniform, and stuff like that, but behind each medal, there is a story behind and one that you probably just want to forget forever. I have had gone thru tons of stuff myself, some just simply pain to remember, let alone retelling those moment.

My dad did not tell me much about his time in Vietnam, he don't generally tell people what he have been thru, and I only have some photo here and there that he left behind, but generally I don't know how, where and when he got those photo.

That sounds really tough! I have come to realize there is nothing as hard as dealing with emotions and feelings - no matter how much you run. Sure you can distract yourself, but not get away from it. So something like that there is no coming back from that and those feelings and memories. It changes you. Hats off to the people that can do that, because dealing with your own emotions is that hardest thing and no one can master that, it's part of the human condition.

it is seldom for the most intense things we feel or experience to be expressed accurately through language. Language is too restricted for that.
