Let's hope that with higher sustained growth for the foreseeable future along with improved direct governance systems (cutting out middlemen) and improved education prospects that this drops even faster. The majority of the poverty has been eliminated in the past two decades thanks to the higher economic growth rates India enjoyed during that period.Look at Vietnam..... 64 to 17% in just 15 years!!!!!
Look at China ...... 84 to 6% 78% dropped in 30 years
And India ..... 42% in 32 years........
All hail fake socialism.Look at Vietnam..... 64 to 17% in just 15 years!!!!!

Its mostly during post liberalization era , so we are not far.
If UP and Bihar pulled up their socks the nationwide poverty figures would fall through the floor. These are the two states who are holding India back and dragging it down, ideally they would be broken up into 4-5 smaller states. Their current population size and abysmal governance record means there doesn't seem to be a lot of hope for the immediate future. It is going to take decades for these states to get to where other states in India were even a decade ago. That is one part of it, I would say the day the state govts of UP, Bihar, Orissa and jharkand do 50% of what is expectedout of them, believe me we would be better than the best too...

Yeah.... Instead of breaking andhra and telunghana, they should have broken UP in to 3 states... But even then if those babus and politicians dont chnage themselves, the chances of loot are more in this case......
The fact that India had 66% poverty until 1979 during which the Congress ruled for almost the entire period says it all (of course the liberalisation effort was also started under Congress but, again, this was out of necessity because they had taken India to the brink of bankruptcy. One should thank Manmohan Singh and, then PM, Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao for their pragmatism not the Congress party).Even what we achieved so far was due to the enterprise of our people and has nothing to do with Nehru to Sonia
may be because of population growth? higher population growth combined with lack of education and useful work skills also make it difficult to reduce poverty. It is difficult to employ people who doesn't posses useful skill in anything. China and Vietnam being a communist countries doesn`t have these problems.Look at Vietnam..... 64 to 17% in just 15 years!!!!!

To change babus and politician first peaple has to change ...they have to come above cast and religion...till then i have no hope for UP and Bihar....whether you make three or four smaller state.Yeah....
