American suburbs are a beautiful thing. Hop a train to Manhattan, finish work and get back to serenity in 35 to 60 mins. Most of my reading I used to do during commute. New Jersey suburbs (like most others) can be treacherously different - a Patterson or Newark vs a Summit or Short Hills.
And then there is India and Indian cities where my heart is. Step out of your sculpted garden "lifestyle (!!!)" apartment into the wonderful din of real life - Re.5 snacks, deliciously unhealthy chai in a tiny cup, the unbeatable mangos (my god, why do they call that abomination in Thailand also a mango ? - or I got cheated while there - no offence to Thai members), veggies that actually have taste. They have reduced the amount of trash on the roads but still some ways to go.
The other day I just toured some villages of TamilNadu (idiots! must correct their own name to ThamizhNadu instead of mispronouncing it officially) and Karnataka. The amount of money in the villages seems a lot more than ever before.
But do whatever, with no other car on the road (or with many on the road) the drivers seem incapable of staying within the lane. They seem to think they should middle the lane mark line under the car.
