I am living in U.S. for the last 13 years, therefore my info about Wah-Cantt won't be up to date. :D But before I left, Wah-Cantt used to be very diverse.. mostly Potohari Punjabis, but there were significant populations of Urdu Speakers, Pathans and ofcourse Afghan resfugees.

Industrial/Economic importance.. hmm.. I don't know :D except for Wah Ordinance factories... and it is one of the highly guarded cities of Pakistan

Other than that they mentioned on "Neelam Ghar" that Wah has the highest literacy rate in Pakistan + one of the cleanest cities of Pakistan (second next to Islamabad).. I don't know if that still holds true after 13 years... :D:D

I think Islamabad is second to Wah-Cantt in cleanest cities of Pakistan. :coffee:

It certainly is very clean. You do not see any Rickshaws or Horse-carts in Wah, which is why the streets are far cleaner than, say, Lahore. Also, Wah is heavily guarded, I hear it's taking up to 2 hours of waiting at the barriers to enter the City these days, because of increased security after the blast in 2008. It is one of the safest cities in all of Pakistan, partly because its heavily guarded on all sides by the Armed Forces, and partly because, due to the high literacy rate, the amount of people willing to commit crimes is low. You rarely ever hear of a murder or day-time break-in in Wah Cantt (I hope it stays that way).

Other than that, its biggest contributions is the Pakistan Ordnance Factories, which produces small firearms, tank munition etc. for Pakistan's Armed Forces. There is also the Air Weapons Complex which produces basic UAV and Robotic systems. Even though the city started out as an industrial town (for POF), it is now home to man private businesses.

Together with Kamra (PAC) and Taxilla (HIT), Wah Cantt (POF) forms the so-called "defense industry triangle". In the 1965 an 1971 Wars, the city was among the sensitive areas and saw regular Combat Air Patrols by Pakistan Air Force. At night, the power to the entire city would be cut off so as to make it difficult for enemy aircraft to target anyone. Wah Cantt's youth tends to be very patriotic, and many choose to join the Armed Forces (there's a Cadet College nearby known as Hassan Abdal College).

Frankly, Wah Cantt is an example city for Pakistan. It has high literacy rate, low crime rate, relatively good facilities (POF Sports Club, hotels, hospital, restaurants, etc.), low poverty rate, low unemployment, good governance (more or less), good communities, close proximity to major hubs like Islamabad and Rawalpindi. All this despite the fact that Wah Cantt is not a posh area or a relatively rich area, people here on average earn the same amount as other cities in Pakistan.

I haven't been to Wah Cantt since 2003. All this is stuff that I've researched by asking family members, online resources etc. I'll be visiting the place in March, InshAllah, and I'll try to post some pictures if I can. Jinxed_Girl sahiba, please correct any mistakes.

A lot of forests, trees, and greenery. Northern Punjab is like this. Before the 1960's, Islamabad was a big forest and now its a developed well-planned city thanks to Ayub Khan. Wah Cantt is 50km north-west of Islamabad.

i think there is wah cant in hyderabad and karachi too
No only one Wah cant in Pakistan.
Wah is a city for Wah Ordinance factories staff controlled by Pak Army.
Karachi and Hyderabad have cant. ( cantonment ) like all the major cities in Pakistan, same as in India, because these were developed in British time for military people and controlled by them.

I used to visit there often when my Bro was on house job in wah hospital. Nice place indeed. Lot of greenery.

And by the way the bus you see in on of the pics....You can travel in 3 Rs from one end of the city to another.

A few years ago i used to study in FG degree wah (was doing my Fsc). I also used to pay the same fare.It was awesome but the buses were usually crowded.

I used to bunk a lot in college.Sometimes i used to go to Aslam market to pass some time before going home. Wah is a nice place.
