vizag gets metro!!

3 corridors with total of 34 km?!! And 7500cr for this?! Waste of money.

Simple math:
Average corridor length 11 km.(Firstly it is more profitable to build a single longer corridor. That is a different issue)
Let us say ticket cost is 10 flat.
Vizag population 1.7 mil. Let us say 10% use the rail corridors everyday.
So 1.7 mil earnings per day by the metro.
Factoring in weekends, leaves holidays, earnings for 1 year(300 days) - 54 cr
So you need what 70 years to get back the money assuming full operating subsidy from government?!

Ask Naidu to put the money in bank, or better yet build decent roads or simpler rails instead of the high-fi metro. He is digging a debt hole within the debt hole.

Cities which deserve Metro are those which have more than 40 lakh population that too with high level of density. Other cities can get mono rail , light rail is more better way and saves cost too.

firstly population of vizag district is 4.2 million which local metropolitan authority is going to entire district under its control!
secondly vizag gdp is 48 billion dollars ppp terms as per 2011 which higher than jaipur lucknow and kochi which are also getting metro!
vizag is also major tourist destination!metro spurs local real estate and is the project for future!
and also it's part of smart city project for which vizag is selected so part funding is from central govt!
in the end the city which gives some much to tjos country deserves clean efficient transport system!

3 corridors for 34 kms is phase 1...it will be extented later

of-course, Vizag deserves but it should be free from political means. Even I might say varanasi(my hometown) too deserves metro just due to sheer size of metro city, prime minister seat, hinduism main centre, historical religious and education capital of India and many more reasons. But I will be practical, its pretty much conjested city. No places for big metro poles. But yes that's where light rail, tram system and mono rail comes into picture. We should be looking for practical solutions. Yes population might be big in a city but traffic patterns needs to be evaluated first before giving building approval for metros. In mumbai I have seen how a metro, mono Project can be helpful or difficult. Please don't take it as a offence. This is just how I look at things from my perspective. Delhi is a good example for those cities which required metro most. If those cities complete the criteria they should definitely get it.

Again, 34 km in 3 corridors is 11km. It will hardly cover 10% of the district. So the numbers stand.

I was just pointing out to the financials of the project. It will have to earn 700cr per year just to get interest rate.
3 corridors for 34 kms is phase 1...it will be extented later
It will also cost more later for extension.

metro for a small city? hope center says no, and the state sponsors it.

this city meets those criteria youve mentioned!! or atleast that's wat survey done by mr. sreedharan revealed.. and corridors were selected based upon on economic viability!!!

wat you and i think is trivial and it doesnt matter!!!
