It's hard to believe that Duan Yongping used to make cheap radios and nintendo knockoffs. I had a coworker who once worked with him. Very few Chinese entrepreneurs have talent to both "think big and do big."

It is the competition in between Huawei and BBK that made advertising prices to shoot up across China. People more into that speculate that advertising in China is becoming more costlier that in America.

Huawei is certainly learning from the BBK success story - they see that spending obscene amounts of money on marketing works, and so they went on to spend even more.

OPPO is trying hard to outmaneuver Huawei

I have recently seen a lot of new ads on OPPO stores in Taipei - about cameras and AI functions.
oppo is very innovative in creating new shit for mobile phone. they were the first to come up with super zooming camera years ago, the first with periscope lenses camera, fullscreen no notch using sliding front cam mechanism, fast charging, in-display fingerprint, tof; etc

Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo has today shown off a working prototype of a smartphone with the selfie camera hidden under the display. A video of the phone was shared on Weibo by the company’s Vice President, Brian Shen, and was subsequently shared on Twitter by the official Twitter handle of Oppo mobiles.

The video shows off a phone with no bezels and a full-screen display showing a slideshow of images. However, on launching the camera app in selfie mode, the upper portion of the display turns off, letting the camera hidden underneath it take a selfie.

In his Weibo post, Shen mentions “At this stage, it’s difficult for under-display cameras to match the same results as normal cameras, there’s bound to be some loss in optical quality. But, no new technology jumps to perfection right away.”

The new technology will definitely allow for more exciting smartphone designs in the near future, and while Oppo is the first to show off a working prototype, a lot of brands are working on the same concept, including Samsung.

While there’s obviously no word on when we might see a smartphone that actually makes use of this technology, early prototypes might be shown off at CES or MWC next year.

Xiaomi has just posted a short clip of a prototype smartphone that features its own under-display technology. This comes hours after OPPO posted its own under-display video teaser.

Posted by Lin Bin, Xiaomi’s President, on Weibo, the video clip shows two smartphones, one with a notch and one that is entirely full screen. A girl then navigates around the two smartphones before releasing the phone with a notch and then showing off the under-display front camera on the notch-less phone. The same video clip was also uploaded onto Xiaomi’s official Twitter account later on.

My friend bought a Oppo mobile from Pakistan, he finds it better than Samsung phones and he has been a big fan of Samsung ever since the smart phone era.
