What's new

Vietnam’s imports of Chinese steel rise 62% i n Jan-Oct: customs

There are signs Chinese central government will loosen the "lifeline" to many such loss making operations. Defaults already started for sectors with most overcapacity.

This dumping of steel to Vietnam is just an attempt from the selling companies to survive.

It just they (Chinese government) will let the most stronger one to survive and acquire (devour) the weakest one. That's how companies in China works, especially SOE there.

In the long run that does nothing. Overcapacity, in labor and production is still there. Workers still need to be paid, factory expenses covered.

If CCP is financing stuff like this, it is in service of buying public peace.

Decent article here on the shift of policy to not pay over and over for businesses that make no profit....constrained by the need to keep "market trust" more or less intact as if it's lost it could trigger a wave of defaults due to dropping credit scores, burdening banks' balance sheets.

Bond defaults signal moment of truth for China ratings agencies, banks | South China Morning Post

iron ore is cheap so steel is cheap.

with a slow down in China those steel mills need to sell outside of China to keep running.

this is the perfect opportunity for smaller South East Asian countries to buy Chinese steel :D

This is good for infrastructure builder in Vietnam, Chinese steel is very cheap, why not.:sarcastic:

Why none TPP member like ID keep poking its nose into TPP deal ?? ID has money manipulation problem, so it is not allowed to join TPP.

TPP could be signed in feb,2016, not now, so, CN just simply try its best to sell steel before cheap but high quality steel from TPP nations come to VN.

.
VN is TPP nation, VN doesn't have to import steel from China.

TPP hasn't even come into force man!

Also, as for steel, many countries have legitimate complain regarding the huge overcapacity built up in Chinese steel sector due to which prices have come dropping down.

It has good as well as bad side. Good is, cheap steel saves money fueling the drive of our infrastructure. Bad is our domestic steel mills suffer. Our long term goal must be, first, increase the strength of our steel producers. Second, TPP calling, making friendly countries as America, Japan and Korea to our top three trading partners, while less friendly nations as China and Indonesia to less important, let say number four and ...I don't know.

In future we have no time to waste on people if they don't like us. Rather spending more time with our friends.

Just like I always say that our company have 2 big partners: Cnese partner and US partner. This year, our Cnese partner earn alot, but they really worry abt TPP, specially when our US partner shift its bussiness from CN to VN and ready to replace CN in VN market.

Pple can see more steel from TPP nations come to VN in few more years, and they (TPP stell companies) will sue CN for dumping steel selling in TPP nations :)

Yes, bro indeed TPP is a new game. I feel even the most friendly people within VCP toward China, after the oil rig provocation, when both stood short before a war, realize China is a country of the past, and it's time to move on.

Cn is a bargain card, an exit door for VCP if US try to play dirty trick to VN in TPP.

Pls not that US put TPP nations like Japan,Malaysia,Singapore and none TPP nations like CN,SK,Thai,ID on the black list on money manipulation. Once day, US may put VN on that black list, too. So, we need some strong card to force US not to put VN on the list :)

True. There is still a great distrust between the governments of America and Vietnam. That takes time to build trust.

Trusting Nazi is still better than trusting USA now. We only can trust US when she transfer some best tech to us, like Nazi sent VN the V1 blue print to kick French azz :D

This shows Vietnam is developing. It is good to have a growing, intermediate and finished goods-hungry neighbor.

Vietnam spent US$3.49 billion importing 7.71 million metric tons of steel from China during the ten months

thank you, Vietnam!

The Chinese steel is relatively cheap compared to the western steel, but not cheap for Vietnam.

Yet Vietnam has to import from China because they can only forge some crude steel, not the high quality one.

With China's massive overcapacity, why not build lots of more skyscrapers and 1000+ navy ships to take up the excess amount?

China is already transferring its production overcapacity into the military.

Otherwise, China cannot accomplish the goal to build 6+ supercarrier battlegroups with 50+ modern destroyers and 50+ nuclear subs.
