NANNING, Jan. 17 — Rising labor costs and a labor shortage in China’s coastal regions have led to more Vietnamese illegally crossing the border to seek work in south China, border police said Thursday.

The border-jumpers have created new challenges for law enforcement on the China-Vietnam border, which saw a 20-percent increase in illegal entries and exits in 2012, according to sources with the border control force in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Border police apprehended 3,592 Vietnamese border-crossers in 2012, with a third of them stating that they were seeking jobs in southeast China’s coastal regions, the sources said.

Increased demand for short-term laborers during the harvest season has also resulted in increased illegal entry, the sources said.

Border police said they will crack down on illegal entry by intensifying checks of hotels and rented apartment

We should allow more people from VN, NK and Burma to work in China, instead of illegal migrants from Africa, middle east or other distant countries.

there are plenty of people that we can source from as a last resort for filling the labour shortage problems. The people from our western territories, DPRK, Myanmar, Laos. Cambodia, Pakistan, Bangladesh ... are better options.

In particular, Vietnamese are not friendly with us.

Then what's the point of "One Child Policy"?

China should charge Vietnamese Govt. a handling fee to cover the administrative costs for the round up of these illegal immigrants from Vietnam.:D

China can also change the govt in Pakistan.

In Lahore, Chinese Muslims established a mosque called the Chini Masjid (Chinese Mosque). They typically intermarried with local people and assimilated. The two Chinese shoemakers there, Hopson and Kingson, had a reputation for high quality. Many Chinese people can be seen in Lahore visiting the Anarkali food-street.
In Islamabad, the Phoenix restaurant has become well-known. Their clientele includes Pervez Musharraf and ex-president Shaukat Aziz; Musharraf is said to enjoy their, Peking duck, stir-fried beef, and garlic lamb chops.

Great! there are a lot of refugees from South Asia flooding Australia and elsewhere. China is welcome take them.

China should not allow illegal unskilled immigrants. Immigrants causes social problem and will not force the local industry to go up market or automate. Local pay will also become stagnant. If local industry wants to hire unskilled illegal immigrant then might as well move the factory to Vietnam.
What is the different ?

Only let in people with skill.

Or China could end up like Malaysia. Malaysia import cheap labor and export brains.
