Vietnamese customs discovered and seized about $4.3 billion of Chinese aluminum falsely labeled “Made-in-Vietnam” before being shipped mostly to the U.S., the Dan Tri news website reported, citing Nguyen Van Can, head of the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The aluminum was imported from China by a company based in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau that tried to sidestep U.S. tariffs, according to the report that didn’t give the company’s name. Vietnamese customs worked with American authorities during the investigation.

Vietnam has become a top destination for suppliers looking to avoid U.S. and Chinese tariffs amid the ongong trade war between the great powers, which also makes it a potential magnet for fraudsters.

Vietnamese authorities are increasing scrutiny on product origins and tightening issuance of certificate of origins for exports, in an attempt to stop trade fraud, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry Tran Quoc Khanh told reporters in Hanoi in July. The government has stepped up its efforts “to prevent the Vietnamese territory from being taken advantage of, and not being used to avoid tariff with any markets,” Khanh said.

Vietnamese shipments to the U.S. increased 26.6% from January through October compared to the same period last year, the Hanoi-based General Statistics Office said in an estimate released earlier today.

.
VERY STUPID

Instead, Chinese should construct factories and process the aluminum before shipping to the US.

Thats how Vietnam earned their high growth export
Yes, it appears that Vietnam export growth is just Chinese export rerouted via Vietnam. Vietnam has no major manufacturing technology or minerals to have such high growth in exports all of a sudden

Not a problem at all

we are traditionally a country for chinese smugglers.

we can get rich by earning commissions.

I just hope chinese smugglers will be smarter in the future and not get caught red handed.

That is why every trade agreement should have strict criteria to determine the source country of the product based on which they get tariff concessions...

You are claiming that Chinese has managed to bring in over 5 billion pounds (give or take a few) of aluminum into Vietnam without being caught by Vietnamese customs and you still think they aren't smart enough..

They can bring aluminum into Vietnam but the problem is such huge volumes can’t be hidden by curious eyes. The US can see from space.

Do you see that?

500,000 metric tons Alu

If chinese smugglers bring in 2,5 million tons, you can imagine the size of the stock piles.

The US customs knock our doors and raise questions.

Vietnamese economy will be taking a steep dive if relations turns sour with the Chinese. That's how important China is to Vietnam. Just look at how many desperate Vietnamese trying to flee Vietnam into the UK.

Vietnam is highly dependent on China about the agricultural seed import.

Without the rice/vegetable seeds from China, their agriculture sector is going to collapse.

And so much for @Viva_Viet always bragged how his country is going to survive by solely exporting rice.:omghaha:

To laugh at China collapse 2023 would be ironic. Vietnam so dependent on China wish for a China collapse, now i really have to question if Viva Viet really is a Vietnamese. Why does he wish Vietnam so much bad luck?

He along with @Viet are both from South Vietnam which is the most anti-communist/anti-China region.

The Vietnamese ultranationalists have been indoctrinated too much by those anti-China propaganda, so they are stupid enough to bite the hand that used to feed them.

The anti-China propaganda from the ultranationalists really hurt Vietnam in result. Few years ago, Vietnam just rejected China's offer of the HSR, and now the central region of Vietnam just couldn't take a ride from the development of the north and south. That's why the central region of Vietnam is the poorest with more people being illegally trafficked. This the root of the tragedy of Essex.

If those ultranationalists from the government keeps spewing more anti-China propaganda, the more they are going to shoot on their own foot.

Short eye sight that's what it is. Vietnam shall remain very poor for a long time to come if her policies reflects what these Vietnamese here are wishing for. Not my concern at all how China Vietnam relations are, just don't want to see them en masse flooding Europe.

China's OBOR is helping to revitalize the development of the Eurasian countries, and a prosperous Eurasia and Africa would be prosperous for Europe as well. When people become richer, the less likely they would become illegal immigrants, but more likely becoming the potential tourists to spend money on the destination countries.

Meanwhile Vietnam doesn't want to take this ride, so hopefully there will be no political chaos/anarchism coming to Vietnam.
