Chinese is not seen in bad light in most northern provinces. The 2014 clash were also all in southern provinces.

In Quang Ninh province (which borders China and one of 03 special economic zones, which are the direct reason of protests, is located here), many people want Chinese investment (if you consider the internet forum is a reliable source) and voiced strongly against the protest in the south.

And the action in the protest is typical for Southerners, who have lower IQ and poorly educated, with hotter head. You are easy to lose your temper and to do things with your hot head. You lack the cold and calm of the northerners. That is the typical trace from your forefathers, the Cham.

Northerners never do like that, at least I never seen in my lifetime.

At first they regard them self as Chinese, and have history their land belong to China, at Tang regime. Maybe because of the location, they are too far so the Chinese officers do not care enough to them made them creating a lot of revolutions. So they did not suppose they are Chinese, they suppose they are Vietnamese, Vietnamese was a race which was destroyed because of Chinese before that. I think the North Vietnamese were Chinese or have some native Vietnamese blood, not much. South Vietnam was Champa land and have big part belong to Khmer Regime of Cambodia. So the North Vietnamese defeated Champa and occopied a part of Kampuchia land (Kampuchia Krom). South Vietnamese likely was combined of Vietnamese, Chinese, Champa people and Cambodian). So easily to understand why the north Vietnamese usually pro-China in while the South Vietnam pro-western. I have two times to Hanoi and one time to Guangzhou, they have same looking, the Vietnamese seems like thinner than, maybe because Guangzhou people have better living

Correction: the Champa came from Borneo, long before a country called Indonesia exists, which itself a new created country in 20 century. Yes the Champ embraced Islam and slavery. The latter encouraged Vietnam leadership to wipe them off the map at the end of the day. The best thing Vietnam has ever done for the mankind and for the people of Indochina.

Some historians supposed the number of battles between vietnamese and cham are bigger than with chinese. The chinese did not permit the Vietnamese launch a war toward Cham because they feared their neighbor would be bigger than. But the Viet prevented the help signs from Champa sending to China through sea, it is only one routes from Cham to China and Likely the Chinese only knew about the Cham's status when it was being defeated. Before Vietnam war, the South Vietnam also had war with North Vietnam nearly 300 years. Who care about Vietnamese anti-China protest, the bottom line is your government need our funding which irresistible and less string attached, if your government care much of your anti-China protesters they can always say no to Chinese investment but your corrupted government will never do that and we don't care if you lease land to Korean and Japan for millennium bottom line we got what we want .

That's why I rarely want to have knife throwing regarding Sino-Vietnam issues to avoid to have a bad feeling of each other. Beside some Individue such as @Viva_Viet or @Viet which keep me entertained and I'm delighted to have fun with them time to time but I'm not anti-Vietnam in my heart, in Chinatown they're like brothers and sisters to me. Culturally speaking Vietnamese are Chinese are most close related compare to other South East Asian Nation, despite that some of them like to badmouth China but I will take that as compliment of course I can also get "over-reacted" too.
