Vietnam has recently conducted exercises involving all of their major air-defense units. Even S-300 PMU2 was in the exercise.

To me, it is clear that Vietnam has decided to directly confront China by drilling for oil right next to the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea together with India. Military conflict and PLAAF bombing of Hanoi is very likely to begin within the next few years.
